Happy New Year Open Door Art Studio Fans!

2012 was a year that Open Door put down roots. The location at 1050 Goodale Boulevard truly feels like home after hosting five successful exhibitions and welcoming in so many wonderful art supporters. This was the year that Open Door Studio Artist Wallace Peck became famous in the local arts community and many more Studio Artists saw their work on display in exhibitions around the state of Ohio and beyond!

2012 also proved challenging when we lost two important members of our community: Elaine Gaines and Paula Lasky. This loss emphasized how important it is to make the most of the time we have together and how art can truly enhance a person's life.

As 2013 begins we are ready to take flight. Our exhibition schedule, to be announced very soon, promises to be particularly awesome. We also have several exciting art shows in the works around central Ohio.

2013 is also an important year for Courtney Yoakum, Open Door's inaugural studio director. Courtney has been an integral part of the Open Door community and this year her career will head in a new and exciting direction. We wish her all the best as her new artistic endeavor takes off! Read on to hear directly from Courtney about what 2013 holds for her...

FAREWELL
ODAS Studio Director, Courtney Yoakum, Says Goodbye

Dear Open Door Art Studio Community,

If you would have told me a year ago that I would be saying goodbye, I wouldn't have believed it, but the time has come for me to say farewell to Open Door and Columbus Center for Human Services. As many of you know, I have enjoyed designing jewelry for the past few years. Over the past year, I participated in several shows and found it to be a rewarding experience, affording me a new opportunity. With the New Year and show deadlines quickly approaching I had to make a difficult decision and decided to focus on my jewelry design full time. It has long been a goal of mine to travel the country doing the show circuit selling my art. I had thought if it was going to happen at all it was still several years away, but it appears my timing is a bit off.

I have enjoyed a very wonderful 13 years with Columbus Center. Beginning in the Recreation Department of Park West Court Apartments, I had the pleasure of enjoying leisure activities with the residents of Park West and some pretty great co-workers. If it sounds like a great job, that's because it was and to my surprise it would only get better when I was given the opportunity to be a part of Open Door. To assist in the development of such a great organization with the trust and support of Columbus Center has been one of the most rewarding accomplishments I have had the pleasure to be a part of. I am truly thankful for such a great experience and I will miss everyone I have worked with, especially all of the wonderful artists of Open Door.

I can't express how grateful I am to have had my experience with Columbus Center for Human Services. It has been so unique and so much fun. I am truly lucky to have worked for a company that makes saying goodbye so hard.

Sincerely,
Courtney Yoakum

Dona England-Afek, President, CCHS, extends best wishes for Courtney's continued success and is excited about her new venture. Courtney will be missed by all! We are grateful for the positive and creative impact Courtney has had on the lives of those attending Open Door and for being a part of the studio.

FEATURED ARTIST
Linda Welch-Hoffman

It is no surprise that the vivacious redhead, Linda Hoffman, loves the color red. She often incorporates rosy hues along with other bright colors in her numerous paintings of abstracted flowers and houses. She layers many shades around simplified forms to create rich and varied surfaces. Linda is fun-loving and is the first to cheer lead on her fellow artists. "You go girl!" bursts out from her almost as much as her infectious laughter. A native Ohioan, Linda would love to vacation to Florida to visit her favorite cartoon character Mickey Mouse. One can only assume that Linda would be the life of the party in Orlando.

Thank you so much for your continued support of the studio and the amazing people who create here. We wish you all the very best for 2013 and beyond!

Sincerely,
