Greetings!
As I'm sure you have heard, we lost an American icon last week with the passing at age 86 of Mr. Zig Ziglar.
Zig was more than just a great motivational speaker and author to me. He and his wonderful family are my friends. At the bottom of the page is a link to a story about how I met Zig.
I was not able to attend Zig's memorial service in Dallas last week but my solitary glass blowing provides me with plenty of time to contemplate and reflect. I had a personal memorial for my friend that allowed time to dissolve and flood my thoughts with memories.
The quote above is probably one of Zig's most famous. When he wrote those words so many years ago I wonder if he knew how profound they really were. When I was a young man starting my journey, pretty much everything revolved around money and building a successful business. Those words made perfect sense from my perspective of providing a product and service and perhaps that was Zig's perspective at the time he wrote them.
As with everything in life time allows for a new perspective. Hopefully a deeper and more life altering one.
I began to think about legacy. I thought about Zig's legacy and what he left for everyone who loved and knew him. The amazing ability he had to put life's principles and cornerstones into such simple and entertaining stories.
As I began reflecting on the evolution of what I saw in Zig's writings and in the evolution of my own thoughts, it dawned on me. It's Christ! Somewhere along life's path Zig met Jesus. Somewhere along life's path I met Jesus.
When you encounter and embrace the living God of the Universe your perspective changes. What is it that people want in life? They want to know they matter. They want to know they are loved. They want to know they can make a difference. They want to know their purpose.
What did Zig do through his talks and writings? He gave people a glimpse of how God sees them. In practical terms he gave people hope, a reason to pick themselves up and go again. He provided people with tools to tackle life's challenges.
Zig had an amazing life. He was married to the love of his life, Jean, "The Red head" for sixty six years. Together they raise four God loving successful children. He built a business teaching his craft and sharing his gifts.
There is no doubt that Zig Ziglar got everything in life that he wanted.
I love you guys,
Don

You've seen my post asking for prayer for Phoebe for several months now. Phoebe is Zig's Great-granddaughter. She is my friend, Julie Ziglar Norman's Granddaughter. Julie told me Phoebe is doing better but she still needs our prayers. You can read Phoebe's story here.
