Listen to the Language of Instinct to Build a Successful Practice

"Something tells me...."

"I have this feeling..."

When someone says this to us, we instantly understand... because we've all experienced it. "It" is our intuition, our intuitive voice, that innate, instinctive knowledge that seems to come from deep within our core... our gut.

Last week, I promised more on the idea of tuning into your instinctive knowledge, hearing and using intuitive leadership as your guide. The first distinction helpful in this approach is that of the intellect vs. intuition. They both speak to us, often simultaneously, but in radically different languages, tones, and from radically different sources.

All living creatures have some form of intuition or instinctive knowledge. But the addition of our intellect (intelligence, egoic mind, mental body, highly-developed brain) is a distinguishing feature of being human. It is essential to development and progress in creating the world in which we thrive. Our intellect's job is to keep us moving forward and to keep us safe.  Seeking pleasure and avoidance of pain is the task at hand for the thinking brain.  Highly attuned to any kind of danger or threat, with a hair-pinned trigger on the "flight or fight" response, it carefully (and quickly) analyzes whether our current situation or the idea being considered is acceptable, wonderful, or potentially unsafe and communicates such to the body which waits, ever ready, for instructions to act accordingly. The intellect weighs the pros and cons of any situation or idea as it relates to the body's safety and perceived well-being with the goal always to minimize the risk. Our head fears there might not be enough, making the wrong decision, or what others will think.

On the other hand, our instincts (inner voice, higher power, intuition, sixth sense) emanates from a deeper, more primal source. Our intuition doesn't need to "weigh" or analyze anything... it simply "knows."  It doesn't need to determine which path will present the lowest level of risk, it just knows the right path to take. The fact that our mind cannot explain exactly where this voice comes from or how it works, causes us to doubt its validity and discount its effectiveness... unless you've learned how to hear it "on demand" and have grown to trust, from your own experience, the perfectness of its guidance.

I've been asked (and wondered many times, myself...), how do I know if it's my intellect or my intuition talking?  Next week, I'll suggest language to help you recognize and distinguish these two voices. In the meantime, take comfort in the idea that we are NEVER confused.  Not really. We may not have directly accessed this intuitive voice or (more probably) we may not like the answer it is giving us... but we are never truly confused.  We always have our answer.

Good to know.

Instant Return on Your Investment Every Day

With Curve Dental you don't pay a humongous, up-front licensing fee. With DENTRIX and Eaglesoft, as just an example, you'll pay thousands and thousands (you have to write a hefy check just to get your hands on a bunch of CD's--and then you have to pay yourself or someone else to install the software!). For any doctor, that upfront fee can be hard to swallow--especially for new practices that are cash-strapped.

With Curve Dental you pay a small, monthly subscription. How small? The actual amount depends upon how many doctors are in your practice and what other additional services your practice needs, such as digital imaging. But, in most cases the subscription is less than $25 per working day (assuming your practice is open 16 days per month).

Every day use of Curve Dental is going to help you increase productivity by more than $25, so the software pays for itself. The treatment planning and patient education features are going to help you improve case acceptance ratios and increase productivity. Curve Dental's scheduling features alone will help you make more efficient use of your time--and time is money. Curve Dental's data backup features are included in that small subscription, and I'm guessing you see a lot of value there alone.

The point here is that Curve Dental provides a ROI every single day.

There's another way to look at a subscription model, which isn't as exciting, but just as enlightening. For only $25 per day Curve Dental provides you with all of the management tools you need to build and manage the killer practice. You're probably sold on your office manager and other team members as bringing value to your practice: You probably gladly sign their paychecks. The same can be said for Curve Dental: You'll gladly pay $25 per day for the value and power the software delivers all day every day.

Water Main Break Closes Practice

For Dr. Melissa Santilli last Tuesday night was just like any other. She left her office at 6:30 pm, looking forward to a quiet evening. At 8:30 pm her security company called to say the fire department was at her office responding to a water leak.

Dr. Santilli rushed to her office and was shocked to see water as high as 12" in some places. All of her computers were fried; her chairs and other equipment were wet, and all carpet and flooring ruined.

Dr. Santilli had to cancel all of her appointment for the next week or so as she removes wallboard, flooring, and anything else ruined by the flood. Adding insult to injury, her insurance company is balking to help her out. Because she is a new practice she doesn't have 12 months of production history, further complicating the insurance company's efforts.

In an effort to help Dr. Santilli, Curve Dental is spreading the word and the opportunity to give her a hand.
