Through Thick and Thin
Eddie Redmayne and Emma Stone were interviewed in The New York Times and over lunch they discussed life, the world, and the universe.
On the subject of acting, they discussed the need actors have to live with 'thin skin.' Emma spoke of the needing to be 'translucent' as "[one's] emotional landscape is what we deal with all day."
I feel ya, Girl. I live within the emotional landscape of my work every day too. It is true that I don't morph into Sally Bowles or Stephen Hawking but I sure feel I put myself out there authentically. Wouldn't have it any other way.
And it takes energy. Cognitive energy. Psychic energy. Spiritual energy. Emma says, "You have to find this fine line between making sure you maintain who you are as a person, without becoming violently protective of your privacy, which can make you shut down."
Don't shut down. Recharge. Rejuvenate. Restore. Unplug. But don't shut down. Walk that tightrope between thick skin and thin skin. We need your light. Be translucent.

The Teacher Voice Report is out. My colleague, Peter DeWitt, blogged about Teacher Voice: 8 Conditions That Are Harder Than You Think. He shares that Russ Quaglia and his group, Teacher Voice and Aspirations International Center, have released the four-year study of surveys collected from 2010-2014. They have reported that eight conditions are vital in schools for students and teachers discover their voice
The site says, "Ultimately, recognizing and valuing teacher voice and their aspirations will lead to academic, personal, and social growth for the entire educational community." Report is linked to on Peter's blog. Read on...
