MWA Literary Event - April 29
|
Join us on April 29 for a literary discussion featuring Muslimah writers. Two Chicago authors
will discuss the inspiration for their books, as well as the process of
writing and publishing from a Muslim woman's perspective.
Farheen Khan, author of "From Behind the Veil: A Hijabi's
Journey to Happiness," and Sadaf Syed, author of "I Cover: A Day in the Life of an
American Muslim Covered Girl."
When: Thursday April 29th at 7:30
p.m.
Where: La Spiaza Coffee House, 114 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL
MWA will also be hosting a book drive during this event to
provide Apna Ghar, a domestic violence shelter for immigrant women in Chicago, with books for
mothers and children and copies of The Holy Quran for their Muslim clients. With the Qurans, we hope to
provide strength, answers, inspiration and hope to the women while they
are at the shelter. The other books would help expand the shelter's library.
Suggested donation: $10.
Advance registration required. Click here for more information and to register.

Make Every Man, Woman & Child Count!
|
As 2010 Census materials begin arriving in mailboxes, the MWA team would like to encourage our partner organizations to actively
encourage members to complete the census form. Accurate population counts dictate
how billions of dollars in federal funding is allocated. The Community Development
Block Grant, HOME Affordable Housing, Emergency Shelter Grant,
Community Services Block Grant, LIHEAP, Weatherization, and Aging funds
are all shaped by the demographic information found in census
figures.
If we are not counted, we WILL lose out. Please get your mosques, churches, synagogues, parochial schools to mobilize their
members and those availing of their services to fill out census forms. There are NO REPERCUSSIONS if someone is undocumented, but we all must
be counted to have adequate services.
For information, visit www.census.gov.

Hadith For Thought
|
The Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) said:
"Do you know who is
(truly) poor?" His companions replied: "A poor man amongst us is one who
has (no money)." The Prophet then said: "The poor of my community will
be he who comes on the Day of Resurrection with prayers and fasts and
charity, but since he hurled abuses on others, brought slander on
others, unlawfully consumed the wealth and shed the blood of
others...his virtues will be credited to the account of the one (who
suffered at his hand)."Sahih Muslim, Hadith 1179
