Food Provides Energy
In nutrition and for the body, energy is defined and measured in kcalories. Things that have calories provide energy. There is no specific food that provides energy, but food in general provides energy. The key is getting enough kcalories to supply and fuel the body for day to day activities. If a person consumes more kcalories over time (not just one day or week, but continually over time) than what they use, a person will gain weight. If a person consistently consumes less calories than what their body uses for their day to day activities, they will lose weight. So, the answer is all foods provide energy. These are a few key tips that are noted to make a person feel like they have more energy.
- Get enough water. Many people are not getting enough water. The first sign of dehydration is fatigue. So often mid-afternoon people think they need a pick me up like a cup of coffee or a soda. Often what they really need is a big glass of water and anything that provides kcalories.
- Get some activity. Any activity works, just something a person enjoys. Isn't it ironic that one of the most popular reasons for not exercising is we don't have the energy and the often described number one benefit of exercising is more energy.
- Think about fueling your body like you do your car. A car cannot go very far if you do not put very much or the right kind of gas in it. Your body is the same way. Your body is meant to have a blend of all foods in amounts that provide fuel and satisfaction to keep the machine running well. For tips and suggestions on how to improve your fuel mix and individualize a plan that works for your schedule, health and preferences, schedule an appointment.

Zumbathon Charity Event It was an honor to be involved in the Zumba Party in Pink last month to raise money for breast cancer. I encourage each of you to find a way to get involved in some charity work or do a short fundraiser. Giving back, educating and having fun are key values I like to share with others. It was quite an honor to bring the oldest and the youngest to the event. Pictured here is both my daughter and my mother. See, you are never too old or too young to get out there and move.
