A Personal Note from Connie
July 26, 2013

Greetings!

HappyBirthdaytoLinda
If you see Linda Lyons, our friendly  front office administrator -
don't forget to wish her a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

I have a few important (and exciting!) announcements to make this week; the first one being that Elite Health Services will be closed on Wednesday, July 31st.  Partners, Brad Gilden, and Steve Kurczewski are taking employees off-site for an entire day of strategic planning and team building activities.  I can't spill all the details just yet, but I can tell you that the morning will be all about business - and the afternoon is going to be quite an off-shore adventure!  Next week I will  have pictures from the day along with the brand new video I promised you earlier this month.

I'm also excited to announce as of August 1st Dr. Brad Gilden will be available exclusively for co-treatments.  Co-treatments will allow all EHS physical therapy patients the unique and beneficial opportunity to experience having not just one, but two Certified Functional Manual Therapists working with them.  Of course there is no additional charge for these sessions, and they can be scheduled during Brad's normal business hours on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  For more details or to schedule a co-treatment session, please call Linda or Stacy at (203) 983-5748.

Last, and certainly not least, if you happen to see our friendly and fabulous front office administrator, Linda Lyons....please wish her a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Cheers,

How Organs Can Affect Your Body

As discussed in the previous visceral article your organs can cause a variety of pains and dysfunctions if they lose their ability to slide on neighboring structures due to surgery, infections, trauma, poor posture, poor diet, etc.

The gastrointestinal (GI) system is made up of the esophagus, stomach, small and large intestines, gallbladder, liver and pancreas. These structures all have to work in harmony to have efficient digestion and transit times. Normal transit time is 16 hours and it has been studied that people with low back pain can have transit time of >30 hours. These structures can be mobilized to improve digestion, decrease low back pain, abdominal pain and many other issues as previously stated.

Another important system in the body is the urinary system. It is made of the kidneys, ureters, bladder and pelvic floor. Problems with the function of the urinary system can lead to frequent urinary tract infections, pelvic pain, incontinence, hypertension, swelling of the body or legs and can be a part of sciatica.

The female reproductive system consists of the ovaries, fallopian tubes and uterus. These structures can be treated directly through the abdomen. Problems in this area can come from C-Sections, child birth, infections, etc. Often times we treat this system for dysmenorrhea (painful periods), scar tissue (post C-Section), pelvic pain and ow back pain as well.

The coccyx is a frequently treated structure on many of the patients treated at Elite Health Services. It impacts are system wide.  As Manual Therapists, we can positively effect neck motion, shoulder motion, core strength, nerve mobility and much more from treating this single structure. It is basically our "tail" and has attachments from the spinal cord so treating this structure can have far reaching effects on the body. We commonly treat it when a patient is experiencing back pain, nerve pain and coccyx pain, but it is often the source of other varous pain and problems as well.

It is amazing that internal organs can have such far reaching, widespread effects on the rest of our body. The good news is that when something is not working optimally, there is manual treatment available to eliminate pain and improve your overall health and well-being.

"My drive distance has increased...to well over 300 yards!"

"I decided to work with Ali on a nutrition plan and golf performance training to take my overall fitness and golf game to the next level. Ali set me up with a meal plan that was both easy to follow, and geared at results. It was a needed addition to everything we did in the gym. You'll be amazed at what she finds and how everything is directly related to all the issues you're having on the course.

After the first week on the nutrition plan I noticed increased energy levels both on the golf course and just in my day to day life. I also noticed that I was losing fat, even though I was eating more food than I was used to. After two weeks, I had already lost enough fat that I needed to go to the next loop on my belt. I also experienced increased strength in the gym, and that any blemishes in my complexion had cleared up. I felt (and continue to feel) amazing!

After six weeks on the plan, I'd lost about 10-15lbs of fat, but my change in body composition was much more impressive. I lost a ton of fat from my midsection, gained muscle, and I noticed that my vascularity was increasing as well. My energy levels consistently increased, as did my strength, which has allowed me a greater range of distance throughout all the clubs in my bag - my drive distance has increased from roughly 280-290 to well over 300 yards. I know it's just science, but the nutrition and training plan that Ali put me on really helped take everything I'd been working towards to the next level.

My endurance has also shot through the roof: I used to get tired after a round of golf, and would (sometimes) be sore the next day. I now can play 36 holes, with energy to play 18 more, and I can't remember the last time I was sore from playing golf. Ali has been one of the best steps I've taken in improving my golf game."
