Etiquette Reminder

Remembering What Mom Taught You

As I speak, train and consult with companies of all sizes, it always amazes me how frequently I hear the phrase "If people just used common sense...".  Here are seven reminders of behaviors that contribute to more cohesiveness within organizations.
  1. Be nice. Say please, thank you, excuse me, and pardon me.
  2. Hand-write thank you notes. They are rare, will set you apart from others and will always be appreciated.
  3. Show humility by apologizing when you're wrong.
  4. Clean up after yourselves in the kitchen or break room. Leave it better than you found it.
  5. Don't take other people's food out of the fridge. Don't be THAT person!
  6. If you work in a cube farm, give people their space.
  7. Respect other's privacy. Avoid eavesdropping and listening in on conversations that don't concern you.

Productivity Apps Designed to Save You Time

I recently put this list together for a client who wanted to help their organization maximize their smart-phones. If you missed last month's newsletter, which provided a list of my favorite Task Apps, check it out here in our Archive.

Paper Karma - Take a photo of junk mail that you want to stop. They automatically contact the mailer and remove you from their distribution list. Stops most unwanted mail that is addressed directly to you.

Evernote
-
The ultimate in note-taking software. It allows you to take notes across all devices that you have Evernote installed on, which makes it easy to pick up where you left off on one device and resume working on another. Also captures screenshots or snippets of webpages.

DropboxAllows you to share and synchronize files, photos, documents and videos anywhere you want to. Access any file you save to your Dropbox from all your computers, iPhone, iPad and even the Dropbox website!

TripIt - This travel app is a planner that keeps all of your travel plans in one spot. Create a master travel itinerary, and access your itinerary planner online or on your mobile phone.

Swiss Army Knife - This app contains a set of tiny tools: a flashlight, a unit converter, a timer, a stopwatch, a compass, a bubble level (comes in handy when hanging pictures), a calculator, a magnifying glass, mirror and ruler.

Retail Me Not Coupons - This app saved me over $500 at Menards when I was ordering new doors for our home. If you've ever left a coupon at home or wondered if there were any current online specials, you'll love this app. Works great when dining out at restaurants too!

Fit Radio - The app offers a selection based on genres, and plenty of different professional DJ mixes to ensure that your playlist options are varied. You can save your favorites and go back to them anytime.

 White Noise Lite
- An absolute must when I'm on the road or when my hubby is snoring! 10 Perfectly Looped Sounds for Relaxing or Sleeping. You can even mix sounds together to create new soundscapes such as crickets and rain.
