Reducing Email -- One Friday at a time
|
We just celebrated the Thanksgiving Holiday. One of the by-products of having a holiday mid-week is receiving less email. In fact, a lot less email. When you have less coming at you via your Inbox, it's easier to concentrate on other tasks and projects that need your attention.
In order to reduce the amount of email sent and received, some organizations are now instituting "No Email Fridays" in which employees are asked to refrain from sending in-house email. Instead, communication happens the old fashioned way: Picking up the phone or speaking face-to-face. Employees report that they feel more engaged and know their co-workers on a more personal level. Most admit to being surprised at the amount of email that was actually coming from those within the company and not outside.
In the day and age where email is ruling the roost, is this email management concept something you could introduce to your department or company to consider for the New Year?
