Chess Success
Congratulations to Alex Solari for his first place win in his age group at last weekend's chess tournament at St. Mary Magdalene School.  We are so proud of all of our BSS Chess participants!

Knights of Columbus Free Throw Tournament
Congratulations to our K of C State Free Throw participants and winners! Eighth grader Stephen Andress came in first place and fifth grader Ryder Lee finished in third place.  Fifth grader David Armstrong also participated in the competition.  Congratulations Stephen, Ryder, and David!

Dear BSS Families,

Blessed Sacrament Church and School Community mourn the loss of Mr. Koury.  If you have not had a chance to read his obituary please take the time to see how his generosity not only touched our students' lives but the life of many other students. We were truly blessed to have Mr. Koury in the life of our school. Please keep Mrs. Koury and her family in your prayers.

Tonight at 6:00 p.m. Fox 8 will air a story about Mr. Koury and Blessed Sacrament School.  Be sure to tune in!

This Friday, March 11, we say good-bye to our benefactor.  In order for the school community to honor Mr. Koury there will be a change in our school schedule.  
 
1. There will be no school for preschool, prek and kindergarten/no after school
2. Faculty will be at the church at 9:00.
3. 1-8 grade students will be dropped off at Blessed Sacrament Church between 9:30-10:00.   
4. Students must wear their school uniform and not their PE uniform.
5. Please provide a snack for your child in a disposable bag.
6. Funeral Mass at 11:00.
7. Dismissal at 1:15 from the Church. Students will not return to school.

Time for Twos-Join us on Wednesdays for Session 2!
Our Time for Two sessions continue to be a success.  We are still accepting registrations for this FREE program.  Blessed Sacrament School's Time for Twos program is designed as a gentle introduction to school.  Our program encourages children to work in a group, explore new materials, and make age-appropriate development transitions.  This program is led by our own child care specialist, Jill Glenn.  The class meets weekly on Wednesdays at 9:15 a.m.

AYLA Eighth Grade Luncheon
Last week our eighth grade AYLA (Alamance Youth Leadership Association) students attended a networking luncheon at Alamance Country Club.  Students were introduced to networking and resume skills and met industry leaders from around the county.

Middle School Math Crunchers
Tuesday MS Math Cruncher students explored Theoretical vs Experiental probability with a flipping the coin experiment! Will their mathematical computations match their actual flips? How many "palindromic sequences" during a 4 flip experiment could there be?

Please make sure a responsible adult is with your child.
Williams High School has graciously allowed our track team to use their track on Sunday's from 4-5pm. If your child is on the BSS track team and wants to gain track experience, please join us! Feel free to bring your own running or walking shoes and jog the outside lanes while the kids do drills and sprints with the coaches. We would like for this to be a family friendly event so join us if you can and don't forget your water!

Bishop McGuinness Sports Physicals
BMHS Sports Physicals will be offered again this spring on Thursday, May 12 at 3:30 in the Bishop McGuinness Gym for current 8th graders who will be attending Bishop McGuinness next year and current BMHS Students.  These are clothed physicals, and the cost of the physicals are $15 and proceeds go back to the school athletic department.  Physicals are good for one year from the date they are performed.  Cash or checks made out to Guilford Orthopaedic will be accepted.  You must be in line no later than 4:20 to be able to get a physical.  Please bring the 2 page NCHSAA Physical form on the "Athletics" section of the Bishop McGuinness website with the medical history page already filled out.  Please contact Jeff Stoller at js@bmhs.us with any questions.

Haw River Clean-Up-A-Thon at Staley Creek
Saturday, March 19 * Meet at 10am at North Park
Age: Recommended for ages 6 & older, children must have adult supervision

Come out for the 26th annual Haw River Clean-Up-A-Thon at Staley Creek with the Haw River Assembly.  Join volunteers cleaning up trash from the banks of the Haw River, the creeks, and Jordan Lake.  Teams will be getting out trash that's harmful to water and wildlife from Greensboro down to Jordan Lake and along the creeks in Durham, Chapel Hill, Burlington, and Pittsboro.  Join the Staley Creek Team at North Park in Burlington!  For more information about helping at Staley Creek or to learn about other locations, please call (919) 542-5790 or email info@hawriver.org.  Also, to learn more about the Haw River Assembly, visit www.hawriver.org

Basic Archery Instruction for Youth 
Spring Break: Thursday, March 31 * 9am-12noon
Ages: 9-12 * Cost: Free, all equipment will be provided
Lake Mackintosh Park & Marina at the Clubhouse (temporary indoor archery range) 
Burlington Recreation & Parks invites youth to experience basic archery at the Lake Mackintosh Park & Marina's Clubhouse.  Participants will be taken through a lesson promoting safety and archery basics encouraging a focus on performing a proper shot: featuring an introduction to archery, safety on the range, using a string bow, and 11 steps of archery success through the NASP curriculum.  For more information, please call (336) 229-3150.  To register, please visit www.BurlingtonNC.gov/youth.  Space is limited; all participants must pre-register and complete a registration form with liability waiver the day of the program.  Archery equipment will be provided by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission's North Carolina Hunter Education Program through an enhancement federal grant from the Pittman-Roberson Act.  Participants may bring a water bottle with their name on it and a healthy snack.  Please wear comfortable clothing and tennis shoes.  NASP: http://naspschools.org/



 

Free Homework Help at May Memorial Library
Mondays 4:30-6:00 p.m.
Does your child need help with homework?  Volunteers from Elon University will be at the May Memorial Library on Monday nights to help children with homework.  Children 11 years and younger must be accompanied by an adult in the library.
