Greetings,
There are a number of exciting events that we're working on at PCATT. The Digital Marketing Seminar is co-sponsored by PCATT with the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii and the Social Media Club of Hawaii. Hope we'll see you there on May 6. In partnership with Apple Education, the PCATT Apple Summer Institute is a special event for teachers and tech staff to learn how to effectively integrate technology to enhance the teaching and learning process.
The 13th annual PCATT IT Symposium, Securing Our Future through Technology and Education, starts on May 21. It provides an excellent opportunity to learn about the ever-changing world of information and communications technology (ICT). The sessions are topical in nature, presenting state-of-the-art ICT tools and trends in a condensed and comfortable format.
And remember: Applications for high school students and teachers to attend the GenCyber Security Camp is May 8. At PCATT, we're committed to providing technology training to meet your needs.

Job Skills Companies Want But Can't Get
Bloomberg surveyed 1,320 job recruiters at 600 companies to learn what skills employers want and which Business schools are meeting these needs. The Bloomberg Recruiter Report summarizes the surveys in an interactive display. I selected "Technology" as the industry and the top three most-wanted and hardest-to-find skills as defined by recruiters? At the top of the list are communication, leadership, and creative problem solving.

Here at PCATT, we often get asked for a good site to find jobs in Hawaii. These are my standard answers because they're good resources:
- TechJobs Hawaii(HTDC)
- TechHui
You may also review commercial sites such as Monster and Glassdoor or explore individual companies like Oceanit.
The TechHire Initiative from the White House is a new program to meet the needs of employers and to provide employment opportunities to job seekers. There is no shortage of jobs for people with the right qualifications and experience. Let us know at PCATT if we can provide training to meet your needs.

Accepting New Technology in the Workplace

Ben Franklin said, "In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes." If he lived today, he would add to this list of certainty: changes in technology. Many of us don't like change, even if it's good for us. If you have co-workers who are hesitant to adopt new technology, here are practical ideas to facilitate this process from the experts, Harvard Business Review.

To Certify or Not to Certify, That is the Question
This question just doesn't go away. The answer is different for each individual but there certainly is value in technology certifications. Gary Audin, Dephi, Inc President, provides insight in his article, The Value of IT Certifications. Certification is only part of the process of entering and advancing in your career, but it can be a needed part. In general, if you can...get certified. PCATT has testing centers on each island for IT certifications.

IT Security for You and Your Family
In Information Technology there is always the tradeoff between security and convenience. If security procedures are too cumbersome and its purpose hasn't been clearly explained, users may try to circumvent them. Today we also have the tradeoff between security and common social media practices. Do you tell burglars when you will be on vacation? If you aren't careful, you may be doing just that. In The Virtualization Practice, Edward Haletky writes about a specific security issue and basic security measures you and your family can take.

Student Interns
When our student interns in graphic design first come to us at PCATT, we see raw talent, creativity, and enthusiasm. When they graduate, they are polished and experienced. Pictured here are Brittany, Kayla, and Linda with their PELE awards. Last year, Linda was awarded the student Gold PELE and she earned a national Silver award from the American Advertising Federation. This year, Kayla earned a Silver student PELE for her brochure design. All three students were in a group that received a Bronze student PELE for their animated video for a business concept they created. We are so proud of their growth and accomplishments.

The student group mentioned above won the Bronze PELE for their animation to promote their proposed company, Served. This company would offer a convenient and healthy meal alternative, using only locally grown, fresh ingredients for a delicious and nutritious meal delivered to your home. You simply heat it up and it's ready to eat, providing great service for the busy professional. Prepare to be impressed by the video, Served, from the students at Honolulu Community College, Communication Arts.
