Greetings!

At PCATT, we celebrate STEM accomplishments. Kaua'i Community College recently received the prestigious 2013 Climate Leadership Award for their sustainable living campus solutions.  Equally impressive, students at Kapi'olani Community College earned 1st place in the Cansat international competition for designing, building, and

launching a space-related mission.

Closing the IT Talent Gap

Closing the Gap

When asked, 96% of 200 senior IT personnel said staff development was important or very important. To close the IT talent gap, the best approach is to start with a skills analysis of your IT team. Where to begin a skills analysis and whether to outsource or do this in-house are good questions addressed in this short article by Rich Hein for CIO.com.

Hein concludes, "It's no doubt that performing an IT skills analysis of your teams is something that needs to be approached in a thoughtful way in order to get it right but the payoff, according to the experts, is well worth it. It can set your IT department up for future successes and improve employee engagement and retention."

By now you've heard the news; our private lives aren't so private. According to an article by Glenn Greenwald of The Guardian, a top secret court order by the NSA was issued to Verizon to hand over all telephone records of all its customers. The NSA has also used this formerly top secret program called "PRISM" to collect huge amounts of metadata from websites like Google, Facebook, and Skype.
What's metadata? Metadata, simply put, describes the data about data. For example, a text document's data may have information about the author, length of document, and when the document was written.  To learn more read it on our PCATT blog.

"Is Security Professional Development Too Expensive?"

Information security training averages $1,000 per day and there is the added cost of taking employees out of work to be trained. To meet the demand for skilled security professionals, Mr. Xeno Kovah, Lead Infosec Engineer at The Mitre Cororation, has developed OpenSecurityTraining, a MOOC where trainers can share their expertise and individuals can learn at their own pace, on their own time for free. Kovah sees this as a supplement to paid training.

After you've used the no cost resources available and feel you need something to formalize that knowledge, check out PCATT. Actually, our most expensive security course is $995, and you receive training from experts in classes you attend after work.

Cisco Academy - Continually Upgrading for You

The Cisco Academy is upgrading their curriculum again, and we love that about Cisco. The curriculum is always fresh and reflects current industry standards.

PCATT will begin CCNA 1, now titled Introduction to Networks, on July 31. A major difference is the integration of IPv6 in the curriculum. If you want to learn basic networking, this is a good place to start. By taking this course, you have the flexibility to learn networking and if you choose to do so, you can continue on toward your CCNA certification. As we receive the updates for all other Cisco courses, they will be posted on the PCATT website.

It's Easy to be Green

It's easy to be green with PCATT green training. In addition to photovoltaics, the newest courses involve the maintenance and handling of hybrid and electric vehicles. You'll be impressed with the new equipment, curriculum, and hands-on learning, especially in Phase 2. The development of these courses was funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor's Employment and Training Administration. Technology is everywhere, not just in IT.

Celebrate! PCATT 4th of July
