Collectible Art Books #2
Last week we started a series of newsletters featuring a collection of vintage art books available at the gallery. We explored a 1965 publication of Picasso's Shakespeare drawings. If you missed it, check out the newsletter and visit the Books page on our website.

Henry Moore
Sketchbook 1926

In 1976 Henry Moore agreed to publish facsimiles of his sketchbook from 1926. The sketchbook was impeccably reproduced, from notes in the margins, to scuff marks on the cover. Moore also wrote an essay talking about his earlier years and the ideas captured in the sketchbook. The essay was published in a booklet and included with the facsimiles. Moore talks about how some of the sketches went on to become sculptural works and some document the places and things he saw during this time.

The sketchbook and essay booklet are housed in a felt-lined hard case. Included in the case is a limited edition etching produced by Moore. This is Edition B of the sketchbook series. Only 325 facsimiles were created; 100 of them were Edition B which include one of two etchings the artist created for the series. This particular sketchbook is #97 from Edition B. It is signed by Moore and includes the etching High Wire Walkers (shown in the 2nd picture above), signed by Moore and numbered 61/75.
