I'm Thankful, How About You?

Last evening as I sat in an unfamiliar church, at a service that brought together pastors, priests, and rabbis from more than 15 different religious institutions, it was easy to let my thoughts wander to why I'm thankful. I'm sure yours would have too. Hearing the various speakers talk about thankfulness, forgiveness and the importance of grateful acknowledgement of the benefits we enjoy even in the face of adversity, reminded me of how important the celebration of "differences" is because it lays the groundwork for growth and combined talent.

I am reminded of this quote from Winston Churchill:


"The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries."

 
We are all blessed to have the opportunity to share our Thanksgiving blessings in a wide variety of ways with a wide variety of people who hold a wide variety of opinions.

As we move quickly from Thanksgiving to the holiday season anchored by Christmas, don't panic that there are only 3 to 5 weeks before "year-end", depending on how much time your company takes off. Yep, only 3 to 5 more weeks to hit your goals for 2014.  Don't panic! Accept the fact that the next few weeks usually don't prove to be the most productive and accept the inevitable (with sound judgment) that you will want to spend time with friends and family. I suggest you take whatever actual working time you have and mentally cut it by as much as 30% to 50%.  Make a personal plan to focus on accomplishments in your business life which will make you feel good about starting 2015!! If you have any secrets to staying sane during this holiday season, please send them my way...I could use them, and I'll share them here so you can help others!

So again let me say, I'm thankful to each of you who read this weekly blog. I have enjoyed being able to communicate with you for more than 10 years. I hope along the way I've helped some of you and I can tell you, you've sure helped me. As I celebrate with family and friends I want you to know that after years of writing this column I am still very humbled and thankful for you, my readers.
