For PARENTS: News, Resources and Volunteer Opportunities

Raiders' Choice Career Exploration Series. Professionals from the community will give our students a glimpse into their careers during the upcoming Career Exploration series during WEB on March 4, 11, 18 at 1:00 in the Walton Theater. A wide variety of professions will be represented to interest all students. Please encourage your children to come and explore the possibilities for their future. Self-Defense Classes.  During the week of March 8, the PTSA will be sponsoring 3 different self-defense clinics: 

1. Sunday, March 8th for 5th - 8th graders, 1:30 - 3:30 in the Walton Theater for a reduced rate of $39 per person. This program is uniquely designed for 10-14 year olds.

2. Tuesday, March 10th for the Walton Community, open to students, teachers, parents and friends, 7:30 - 9:30 pm in the Auxiliary Gym for a reduced rate of $39 per person. WHS students who have taken on-line health classes may take this course free of charge.

3. Wednesday, March 11th, FREE Senior Girls' Self Defense Class, 1:15 - 3:15 during WEB in the Auxiliary Gym.

Steven Spivey of Max Defense believes anyone can learn to use the "great equalizers, adrenaline and fear," to successfully defend themselves against a stronger opponent. For more information and to register go to Self Defense.

 

Registration for 2015-16. Students received the 2015-16 registration bulletin on Friday. Please review this booklet with your student as they will be registering for 2015-2016 courses on Monday, March 2nd and 3rd during the school day.  For more detailed information, the 2015-16 Academic Planning Guide and Online AP Booklet are available on the website under Academics. 

 

"Human Trafficking" Presentation. On March 17 at 7:00 PM in Lassiter High School's small theater, Attorney General Sam Olens will lead a panel discussion regarding "Human Trafficking." This program is sponsored by Rocky Mount Counseling Department, PTA and Foundation and is not to be missed! For details see, Human Trafficking Presentation and link to video, Video.

Clubs and Organizations

Walton Science National Honor Society. Applications are being accepted for the 2015-2016 year. Membership is open to rising juniors or rising seniors who have been enrolled in at least one Honors or AP science course during each year of high school, beginning with the sophomore year, and have maintained a 3.5 overall weighted GPA and a 3.7 weighted science GPA. There is an applicant meeting on Monday, March 2nd at 7:50-8:10 am or 3:40-4:00 pm in C175. Contact Ms. Hendricks (Tobie.Hendricks@cobbk12) for more information.

 

Save your "Cool Things" for "Cool Girls!" The PTSA Community Outreach Club will hold its annual Cool Girls Drive April 20-24.  Start saving gently used accessories, pajamas and room décor for school age girls, then bring your donations to the front office during the drive.  You will get a donation receipt, clean out a spot in your closet and make a special "Cool Girl" very happy!
