STAR Students/Teachers Selected
|
Congratulations to Haroon Alam and Sanket Mehta on their recognition as Walton's 2015 STAR Students. The Student Teacher Achievement Recognition program is sponsored, administered, and promoted by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) Foundation. Since its inception, the STAR program has honored nearly 25,000 students and the teachers they have selected as having had the most influence on their academic achievement. To obtain the STAR nomination, high school seniors must have the highest score on a single test date on the three-part SAT and be in the top 10% of their class based on their weighted grade point average. Haroon has selected Mrs. Jennifer Phillips and Sanket has selected Mrs. Amanda Edwards as their STAR Teachers. Congratulations to these great students and teachers!

 WHS Drama Club Presents

Mar. 27, 7:00,
Mar. 28, 2:00 &

The Crucible, written by American playwright, Arthur Miller, is a story of a young farmer, his wife, and a young servant-girl who maliciously causes the wife's arrest for witchcraft. The farmer brings the girl to court to admit her lie. But, it is here that the monstrous course of bigotry and deceit is terrifyingly depicted. The farmer, instead of saving his wife, finds himself also accused of witchcraft and ultimately condemned with a host of others. The Broadway production won a Tony Award for 'Best Play" in 1955 and has become an icon of American Drama.
Drama Club Sponsor, Joymichelle Green, is a teacher in the WHS English Department. The Crucible is a part of the American Literature curriculum, and Green chose this play to give the WHS student body an opportunity to experience The Crucible as a play instead of simply reading the text. Cast members agree that seeing the characters come alive on the WHS stage will add an entirely new dimension to the study of Arthur Miller's work. Reserved or general admission tickets can be purchased at the door or on-line at Tickets. Come out and enjoy the show! Walton Drama Club always delivers a marvelous performance...and you may even get a better grade in English as an added bonus!

Practice an Attitude of Gratitude
Make a list of your top ten reasons to be grateful and review it often. Begin each day with a grateful heart. Don't let there only be one day a year that you express your "thankfulness!"
Geoffrey James wrote an article about practicing gratitude saying that it is like an "emotional muscle." He says, "people who approach life with a sense of gratitude are constantly aware of what's wonderful in their life. And when things don't go as planned, people who are grateful can put failure into perspective."
I have a friend that keeps a gratitude journal. And let me tell you, this woman exudes a bright shining light! Everyone that knows her knows of the many things she is grateful for. Her energy, happiness and zest for life is contagious and I just want to be around her all the time. Now, I'm not saying that keeping a gratitude journal will provide you with all that I described above, but it certainly helps one see the positive in your life. When you express your gratefulness to others, it makes them feel good AND you feel good. An attitude of gratitude creates a positive environment in the workplace, benefits teacher/student relationships and enhances parent/child relationships!
What are you grateful for today?
"It is not happy people who are thankful. It is thankful people who are happy."

WHS Finalists Announced:
2015 National Merit Scholarship Competition
Walton High School is very proud to announce our twenty-five Finalists in the National Merit Scholarship competition. Over 1.5 million students took the 2013 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSGT) in October of their junior year and entered the National Merit Scholarship Program, a nationwide competition for recognition and awards conducted by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. In April 2014, the 50,000 highest scorers were identified to high schools across the nation. Approximately 16,000 of those high performers were designated Semifinalists on a state representational basis in the fall. After completing an application to move on in the competition, these twenty-five seniors have been selected as Finalists by the NMSC. In upcoming weeks, these students will learn if they are among the 8,000 Merit Scholarship winners chosen from the group of 16,000 finalists. Walton congratulates all of these seniors on their achievement. We are proud of you!
