The Power of Connection

Connection truly matters, and your support of Bread & Roses helps us do what we do best - connect talented musicians and other performers with those who are isolated and in need of uplifting. Make our annual Spring Appeal a success. Donate today! Your gifts help us bring hope, healing and joy to deserving youth, adults and seniors who need music most in over 600 Bay Area concerts each year. Your support is instrumental to our continued health, vitality and growth.

Our success is the result of the dedication and hard work of many performers, show hosts, event and office volunteers, and board of directors.  All gifts, including those from our in-kind supporters, help us recognize the extended Bread & Roses community at our annual volunteer appreciation event and throughout the year.

Your help is invaluable for sustaining our overall program. This year we are expanding our services to veterans' audiences and providing more interactive programs throughout the Bay Area for audiences across the board - with a special focus on children and youth.

We welcome four new board members - each bringing their expertise, creativity, big picture thinking and love of music/live performance to enhance our mission.

Expanded Service to Veterans' Audiences

As part of our expanded program for veterans' audiences throughout the Bay Area, we are now serving the Psychiatric Inpatient Care Unit (PICU) as well as the convalescent wing at the Community Living Center at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in San Francisco. We are also collaborating with the Walking Point Foundation to bring music to newly returned vets from Afghanistan and Iraq at the Pathway Home, in addition to our continued service at the convalescent wing of Holderman Hospital at the Veterans Home in Yountville.

See our blog for news of a recent program, Honoring Our Veterans: Music on Memorial Day at the Menlo Park VA (May 26 2014).

Interactive Clown Workshop at Oakland's 24-Hour Childcare with Circus of Smiles
We are making a special effort to bring more interactive programs to audiences across the board, especially to children and youth.  Many talented performers excel at putting music and stories together in an interactive way with magic, movement, puppets, juggling and other performance art. Thanks to storyteller Kirk Waller and children's musicians Beth Crespan, Madeleine King, Gary Lapow, Spike Sikes, Miss Kitty, Joni de Gabriele, and magicians Dan Raspyni, David Facer, Frank Olivier and so many others who are contributing to this effort.

Recent programs include a wonderful clown workshop with much audience participation by Circus of Smiles at 24-Hour Childcare in Oakland. See our blog for Host Barb Withers' story.

We are always looking for more interactive performers, so please let us know if you have any referrals.
