What is it about JABBERS and their dads? When we asked our readers to tell us about their Fatherly Bonds in preparation for the holiday and our special Team JAB feature below, little did we know just how charming and often humorous the dynamic would be. One JABBER recalled how, as a young child, she would sneak into her parents' bedroom and wake her mother up ... so as not to disturb her darling father reading quietly two feet away! Dads play a special role in life, and this weekend, JABBERS everywhere will be spoiling them, just like Dad deserves.
Happy Father's Day and Happy JABBING!
- Team JAB

LemonAid From Team JAB We want to thank all of the JABBERS who, after reading last week's newsletter, joined Team JAB in celebrating National Lemonade Days. We heard from JABBERS who braved this weekend's temperamental weather to set up a stand and raise funds for childhood cancer research, and shared their updates and photos with us by email and social media.
JABBERS and Mini-JABBERS across South Florida raised hundreds of dollars one cup at a time. The updates we received are amazing:
- JABBERS Shari Byrd, Allison Langer and Michelle Segal Janson raised an easy $131 by setting up their stand on the sidelines of a kids' soccer game in a local park on a hot afternoon.
- Pinecrest business Joanna's Marketplace hosted their stand in the memory of Bella Rodriguez-Torres, and matched the more than $160 raised in lemonade sales over two days with a corporate donation. They will continue to sell lemonade in-store until they reach their fundraising goal of $500.
- JAB Palm Beach Managing Editor Lissa Dorsey raised $138 outside of her West Palm home, and wrote about it in Tuesday's issue.
It's not too late to participate, JABBERS! Click HERE or text LEMONADE E113000 to 85944 to donate. Send your updates and pictures of last weekend's stand to us by email. And keep checking HERE to see photos of JABBERS in action, on our Facebook page. Happy JABBING!

Fatherly Bonds
From Team JAB
JABBERS, we asked you to tell us about the greatest gifts your father ever gave to you. In this tribute to Father's Day, we share your thoughtful and amusing responses.
Megan Peffers says, "My father is an avid sports fan. I remember as a child, he would take my brother and me to every home baseball game, and would spend hours with us on the weekends playing H-O-R-S-E and kickball. Watching games with him on television was as much fun as going to the movies. It's because of my dad and this love of sports I inherited, that I was voted "the coolest girl" in seventh grade by all of the boys in the class! The only other person who is as grateful as I am for this gift is my husband. Happy Father's Day, Daddy!"
Carlo Costas says, "My father, Carlo Sr., had a way of expanding the minds of those around him with thoughts of growth and adventure ... and big thoughts led to big actions! Grandiose plans (and at least two small businesses) were often made after people had spoken with him. I think it's important that we inspire each other to keep 'thinking big,' and I try to incorporate that into my life daily."
Lissa Dorsey says, "The greatest gift I inherited from my father was my love for writing. Growing up, my father always had a pen and paper in his hand. Whether it was a poem, short story or a speech he was preparing, he always read his writings to me and asked for my input. It's because of him that I started keeping a journal at a very young age, and developed a passion for writing. And my writing skills have served me well in life: as an English major in college, as an attorney, and as the Managing Editor for JustAskBoo Palm Beach ~ I have a job I love where I write all day. Thanks Dad! Angel O'Connell says, "Dad taught my sisters and me all of the same life-skills he would have taught to a son. Because of my dad, there isn't anything that we can't fix around the house! This gift has saved us not only money on having to hire plumbers or handymen, but several arguments with our spouses." Boo Zamek says, "Every Christmas when my sister Morgan and I were growing up, what we looked forward to most - even more than the gifts Santa had left under the tree - was the 'love letter' from Dad we knew we'd find in our stocking. Waking up at or before the crack of dawn, we raced down the stairs, and tore in to our stockings to read our letters. Dad hand-wrote a special one for each of us every year and they were incredible. (My dad is a very talented writer and ~ sorry, Dad ~ is a pretty mushy guy.) Both Morgan and I have saved all the letters to share with our children someday. Thank you, Dad!" |
Needing a Temporary NannyFrom Silvia Foltan: REPLY Friends are visiting Miami from Czech Republic, and we are searching for an energetic caretaker with perfect English for their two girls, ages three and one. We are looking for an experienced, responsible and caring person with good references to take the children swimming and to the park, and to entertain them with games, books and other activities. The goal is to immerse the girls in the English language. Hours are 9 am to 6 pm, every day from October 6 to November 2.
