A Note from Boo Did you know that some schools in our community have already begun summer vacation? Summer is upon us, JABBERS. Not officially, of course, but here in South Florida we feel the heat. And I don't mean basketball. While most of us are eagerly counting down the minutes until a summer routine of spur-of-the-moment weekend getaways, lazy days by the pool and impromptu trips to the ice cream store, spontaneity requires excellent planning!

Harris and Zamek kids, Miami Beach. Photo taken by Mason Harris.
For those of us who spend each day trying to fine tune the balancing act of having both a productive and relaxing summer, our natural instinct is to thrust into overdrive and try to do it all. It's not easy, but with each other's help, it's doable. That's what JustAskBoo is here to do - help make your lives easier in any way possible. Can our JABBERS save you a few minutes by finding you a great bartender for your summer soiree? JAB it. Looking for a fun college student to help out with the kids this summer? JAB it. What about that wedding you're planning next June? From florists to bands to photogs, our JABBERS are the best recommenders around.

As summer approaches, I hope we can help make yours a fun, relaxing and memorable one. Happy summer and Happy JABBING!

-Boo

Gotta JAB Orange Anonymously Yours
From Team JAB
We publish JABBERS' first and last names with great pride. We are real people in our community ~ a premier, intimate network of trusted friends and neighbors. In fact, that's what people love most about JAB. But here at JAB, there's also a time and a place for discretion. Unlike other online services, JustAskBoo posts are filtered through an editor for quality control, providing anonymity for the most sensitive of matters.  And in this brave new world of online overshare, this means your nosy neighbor can talk about her garden, and not your child's bedwetting! Happy JABBING!

Stand Up to Childhood Cancer
From Team JAB
Hosting a lemonade stand is not only a fun activity for kids, but also a way to make a difference in the community. This weekend, join Team JAB in commemorating National Lemonade Days, June 7, 8 and 9, by setting up a lemonade stand in your neighborhood to help fund childhood cancer research. Here's how to do it:
  1. Register your lemonade stand with Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation HERE. Include #LovetoJAB in your fundraising page name.
  2. Send us the link to your fundraising page and/or the location of your lemonade stand (cross-streets are acceptable) by email and we will promote it on Facebook and Twitter this weekend.
  3. Check out our Pinterest board for lemonade recipes and everything lemon-inspired.
  4. Take a photo of your lemonade stand this weekend and email it to us HERE. We will post the photos on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
Team JAB will dedicate our lemonade stands in memory of Bella Rodriguez-Torres, who recently passed away from Rhabdomyosarcoma at 10 years old. We invite JABBERS to join us in this dedication, and most importantly, Live Like Bella!

It's a Numbers Game
From Team JAB

Another 73 days until school starts, and roughly 73,000 opportunities to hear those dreaded words, "I'm bored." JABBERS can reduce that number by 17 thanks to Broward Attractions + Museums Month: 17 museums and cultural institutions across Broward and Palm Beach Counties offering reciprocal privileges ~ belong to 1, belong to all 17, all month long. That's at least 73 minutes of quiet and 1 happy family. Click HERE to see the list of participating facilities.

What's the Plan?
From Anonymous:  REPLY
I am currently undergoing fertility treatment and hope to become pregnant very soon. My health insurance does not cover maternity so I need to find a new plan quickly. Do you know of any plans/providers that offer maternity coverage to a single woman? Or, if there is a local insurance broker you can recommend, please contact me. Your replies are appreciated. Thank you!

Great Baby/House/Pet Sitter Available!
From Boo Zamek:  REPLY
Ana Kucera is the ultimate baby-sitter with plenty of experience. She has been in the business since she was 15, and is now 25 years old. She works for the Miami Dolphins volunteer program but loves kids and baby-sitting. She is clean, responsible and your children will have a great time! She has baby-sat for kids ranging a couple months old to parents not wanting to leave their teenager alone in a house for the weekend. She also house/pet sits and comes highly recommended. She has a car and a clean driving record, and is available nights and weekends. I've known her for several years, and she is a lovely young woman!

Road Dog
From Krista Volk:  REPLY
We are an active duty Navy family and are trying to find a way to get our Labrador Retriever to Fresno, California, where we will be relocating at the end of July. We do not want to fly him and have been unable to find a shipping company we feel comfortable with. If you have any suggestions or if you or someone you know is planning a road trip to the West Coast and wouldn't mind a four-legged companion, we'd love to hear from you.

Lab Lovers
From Tory Joeckel:  REPLY
We would like to add a female, yellow Labrador Retriever puppy to our family. We would prefer not to buy from a puppy mill or a warehouse breeder, but instead from a private individual who simply has a litter ~ puppies from a loving person with a loving home. Can you connect us? Any direction is greatly appreciated.

Team JAB's Favorite Recipes

By Team JAB
With Broward County Schools closing in a matter of hours, we are here to remind you, JABBERS, that summer (and citrus!) isn't just about kids. We caught up with six-time national mixology champion Tobin Ellis, during his last appearance at the Regent Cocktail Club at The Gale Hotel in South Beach, to acquire a recipe for an adult drink guaranteed to get you in the summertime swing.

Tobin Ellis, Champion Mixologist

BarMagic of Las Vegas
Tobin shared, "About eight years ago, bar owner Tommy Bermejo (owner of the world famous Tommy's Cantina in San Francisco) started making fresh margaritas with agave nectar. These days most people know about the low-gylcemic sweetener from Mexico, but not then ~ Tommy was a pioneer. Tommy has since passed, but his son (and my friend) Julio carries on the tradition. So forget margarita mixes and cheap tequila. Go with this simple recipe, and impress the pants off your friends. Which might be awkward, but memorable."

Tommy's Margarita
Serves 1

1-1/2 oz 100% de agave tequila
3/4 oz fresh squeezed lime juice
1/2 oz agave nectar (Tobin recommends Madhava Light, available at Whole Foods and many better grocery stores.)

That's it! Shake all ingredients with ice ~ very important as it dilutes and chills, the extra water adds balance and rounds the drink. Pour into big rocks glass with fresh ice, garnish with a lime squeeze, and enjoy!

Little Sleeper
From Catherine Prince:  REPLY
Our little one is all grown up, and we would like to purchase a gently used, solid hardwood twin bed from a reputable brand like Pottery Barn or Restoration Hardware. If you have one that you would like to sell, I would love to hear from you. Thank You!

A Ping Pong Pursuit
