 Downtown Matters, Downtown Pride!
The grass is green now and we're all thrilled about Spring finally arriving. People were particularly busy this past weekend working on their yards, sprucing things up, planting flowers, etc.
We are excited that Downtown will be welcoming thousands this Summer, so let's band together to clean up OUR Downtown. Spring Clean-Up is scheduled for Thursday, May 23rd. There is a morning shift (pastries/beverages provided) and an afternoon shift. Lunch will be provided by the Waters provided by The DTC has hosted Spring and Fall clean-ups for over 15 years. We are fortunate to have so many wonderful volunteers willing to donate their time each year to help pick up litter, weed and sweep. If you are willing to volunteer, please sign up with Jill Pauly at jill@stclouddowntown.com or call 257-8601 so that we can plan accordingly. ADOPT-A-PLANTER PROGRAM EXPANDING We plan to purchase approximately 18 large planters to be placed in clusters of 3 in Downtown this year. If you are interested in adopting a cluster, please contact Penny White and we can follow up with a form. We hope to partner with a member florist to help us create a consistent look. What does adopting mean? The DTC would provide the planters; we will place 3 clusters near your business. You would be responsible for planting with the specified greenery (or securing our florist to plant for you), and maintaining.

Annual Report Published
2012 Was a Productive Year
The Downtown Council & Alliance Foundation work on behalf of our membership for the betterment of Downtown; the heart of our region. Kate White Schad, Jill Pauly and Pegg A.K. Gustafson would like to acknowledge the 2012 DTC and DTAF Board of Directors, members and sponsors; THANK YOU for your hard work, time, support and dedication to our organization and to our Downtown. We expect 2013 to be another successful year.
Thanks, also, to Hendricks Marketing and Nock Design Group for all their help and expertise in pulling the 2012 Annual Report together.
Why Main Streets Matter
We all know where our Main Streets are, but do we know what they are and why they matter? Whether they are named First Avenue or Water Street or Martin Luther King Boulevard, what they represent is universal. Main Street is the economic engine, the big stage, the core of the community. Our Main Streets tell us who we are and who we were, and how the past has shaped us. We do not go to bland suburbs or enclosed shopping malls to learn about our past, explore our culture, or discover our identity. Our Main Streets are the places of shared memory where people still come together to live, work, and play.

Happy Birthday Brothers!
The downtown bar and grill is celebrating its first birthday this week! Downtown Council Member Brothers Bar and Grill will celebrate with a patio party on Saturday, May 24. Brothers will serve $1 hot dogs and hamburgers starting at 3 p.m. on the patio. Guests will also be treated to special pricing on some of Brothers huge variety of draft beers.
The first year has been an adventure for Brothers Bar & Grill owner Josh Aliesch. After months of careful renovations the bar opened last May. On any night you'll find a combination of downtown employees, college students and out of town visitors. Brothers has also found a niche with sports fans who can catch a game on one or several of their dozens of flat screen TV's.
"We had a blast watching the Huskies make it to the final four. It was a lot of fun," Brothers Owner Josh Aliesch said. "Brothers is a great place to watch game- whether it's the Huskies, the Wild, Twins or even Minnesota. It's great to catch a game upstairs or downstairs."
The downtown hotspot is located at 119 5th Ave. South in what was once the 5th Avenue furniture store. The building features original hardwood floors and other historic architectural details.
