Welcome back, my friends, to the
show that never ends..."

Telos Alliance CEO Frank Foti on what's to see at NAB

Frank Foti Welcome to NAB 2013! If you're able to make the trek to Sin City, we look forward to visiting with you at the convention. If not, no worries, as there's a good chance you'll have the pleasure of seeing us in your town soon! This spring we are launching something brand new for us...The Broadcast Audio Fanatics Tour.

Telos Logo

By the time you're reading this, our crew will already be on the road traveling the country visiting radio and TV stations of all shapes, sizes, and colors! All of our Telos Alliance products will be represented, and you never know who might show up at some of these gatherings. In this day and age of social media, the Internet, and electronic gatherings, we still believe in the power of face-to-face personal interaction. Here's hoping to see you somewhere real soon! We'll be sharing our itinerary with you soon.

New Omnia Logo It's amazing how fast technology moves today. In the blink of an eye, we see platforms and paradigms shift. This is why we never stop reaching for the bar. In fact, some of our crew are reaching for it, while others are fast at work pushing it out even further! This year we'll hear about ongoing developments within the X.192 AES standards group regarding Audio over IP (AoIP), and the next phase of testing within the FM Task Group regarding Single Sideband Suppressed Carrier (SSBSC) transmission for FM-Stereo. We're also introducing a new method to connect an FM audio processor to an exciter via MPX over AES using Omnia Direct, a joint development between Omnia Audio and Nautel. This latter topic is truly exciting, as it further enhances the connection between the processor and exciter. Omnia Direct enables a digital connection from the output of the audio processor's stereo generator, and couples it directly to the modulator of the exciter. The exciter will transparently mirror whatever the processor delivers! (Hint: It even works with SSBSC!)

25-Seven logoWe have no less than three of our colleagues presenting at NAB engineering sessions (see below), as well as sitting on a few of the technical panels. As you can see, the fun never stops here!!

Earlier this year, 25-Seven merged into our Alliance. This move expands - yet again - our organization, and it brings together more of those "get it" guys who possess passion, drive, creativity, determination, and a willingness to win. Qualities Steve Church, Tim Carroll and I shared and still possess, and which continue to be the basis of our livelihood. This year also marks the 25th anniversary of our radio processing division, which began its life as Cutting Edge Technologies (but you know it now as Omnia Audio). It's been an interesting journey since those early days of one guy, working along side his trusted cat, in an apartment building Vigilante processors. (BTW: That cat was quite a character. He was my boss, and his name was "Vito Corleone!")

Axia Logo, Rendered, with Telos Alliance slug Speaking of 25-Seven, wow, what an interesting group. They were one of our initial Livewire technology partners, and business buddies. Over the years, we realized, together, there might just be something special if we teamed up. Well, in typical Telos Alliance fashion, we didn't even wait for the ink to dry on the merger documents before beginning to play in the proverbial sandbox...we just jumped right in.

Linear Acoustic LogoJust as Santa's elves keep busy year around, so do the teams of the Telos Alliance. Each of our brands will be sporting something new at NAB - just read below to find out these new developments.

So here's hoping we have a chance to spend some time together soon, either in Vegas, or in your neck of the woods.

Rock on!!

Road Trip!!!
Say what?? Watch this space

Broadcast Audio Fanatics
You know us Telos Alliance guys -- always cooking up something new. This time, we've come up with an excuse to buy something cool, fill it with gear, and roll it around -- ah, but we've already said too much. Shhh, it's a secret!

Come see us at NAB to find out what it's all about, or watch this space for details, coming soon.
What's on the line from Telos?
A hot new phone system, and cool new capabilities for Z/IP ONE
Hx6 and VSet6Visitors to the Telos Alliance stand at IBC last September got the first look at our new Hx6 six-line phone system - and they liked what they saw.

Now, Hx6 makes its North American debut at NAB. A feature-packed six-line phone system that offers Digital Dynamic EQ, ACG, and caller audio processing by Omnia for stellar audio quality, Livewire connectivity, VSet phones with high-resolution color screens, and twin hybrids for high-quality conferencing, the Hx6 system is poised to become the new "gold standard" for six-line broadcast phones. Works with POTS (analog) or ISDN (digital) phone lines.

Luci Live You've heard a lot lately about how important IP codecs are -- especially with word that major US telcos are discontinuing ISDN service. Luckily, you've got Z/IP ONE, the premiere codec for broadcast-quality remotes via public IP links. And now, Z/IP ONE has more useful capabilities than ever: Z/IP ONE now works with LUCI LIVE smartphone software making high-quality field remotes possible with Android or Apple smartphones - including iPod Touch - over WiFi, 3G, and 4G connections. This makes the Z/IP ONE the perfect tool for news gathering, quick high-quality remotes, and interviews when coupled with easily available pro mic/headphone breakout accessories for mobile devices.

And there's another enhancement for Z/IP ONE. For years, Z/IP users have enjoyed the ability to connect to other Z/IP codecs - anywhere, any time, even behind NATs and corporate firewalls, thanks to convenient free Z/IP Server service. Now, Z/IP Server gets even better, as Telos prepares to roll out Z/IP Servers across the globe, for distributed presence, increased connection reliability and lower ping times. Read more here.
New for DTV from Linear Acoustic:
Tools to manage your loudness...and to verify you're not too loud

Linear Acoustic® is showing and shipping two new offerings for the digital television audio market at this year's show: The AERO.2000™ Audio/Loudness Manager and the LQ-1™ Loudness Meter.

AERO.2000 is the successor to the highly successful AERO.air and offers AEROMAX loudness control for 16-channels of audio (5.1+2+Local and 2+2+Local) in two independent instances, UPMAX II upmixing/downmixing, ITU-R BS.1770-3 metering, and optional Dolby® encoding/decoding and Nielsen® Watermarking. It also utilizes patented Linear Acoustic Intelligent Dynamics™ hybrid metadata processing.

Linear Acoustic LQ-1On the metering side, the brand-new LQ-1 is a simple, accurate, and flexible loudness meter featuring ITU-R BS.1770-1/2/3 standards and selectable Dolby Dialogue Intelligence automatic speech gating. Dolby Digital/Plus/E decoding is standard. Its compact size and rugged build quality make it a great choice for cramped edit bays and OB trucks.

The rest of the Linear Acoustic lineup will also be on display including AERO.one, AERO.lite, AERO.mobile, LQ-1000, LAMBDA, UPMAX, LA-5269, LA-5280, and MT2000 in Booth N3438 (Linear Acoustic), Booth N2837 (ATSC), and in the Central Hall at the Telos, Omnia, 25-Seven, and Axia booth (C3007). Read more about the entire line: click here.

Axia switches things up
World's first zero-config Ethernet switch for IP-Audio networks? Yeah, that's us

xSwitch Axia was first on the scene with IP-Audio networking in 2003, and in 2013 we're still leading the pack, with cool new tools have the other guys wonder what we're going to do next. So this'll come as a real surprise: If you can imagine a built-for-broadcast IP Audio network switch that requires no configuration and simply works by plugging into your Livewire network, you've just described the new Axia xSwitch. xSwitch features eight Livewire ports plus two Gigabit trunking ports with SFP for redundant copper or fiber connections and PoE to power compliant peripherals. Since it's part of the xNode family, it's compact, rack-mountable, fanless, and ultra-reliable - truly set-and-forget.

Axia Consoles On the console side, Axia offers the industry's most comprehensive line of AoIP networked mixers, ranging from the flagship Element (the choice for thousands of radio stations across the globe) to iQ, the full-featured console with a mid-range price; from Radius, the 4-bus, 8-fader console perfect for standalone or networked studios to the award-winning RAQ and DESQ compact consoles that bring the studio network advantage to even the smallest spaces -even VO booths, prod rooms and news bullpens.

Inside Omnia, things are heating up
Our R&D teams have been working overtime

AudioActive by Omnia There's plenty bubbling on the Omnia stove these days. First up, a familiar name with a whole new meaning returns to the Telos family: AudioActive by Omnia, the world's first "Interactive Radio" technology platform. It e

nables valuable interactive features for your program delivery systems, such as Internet streams and FM broadcasts received on a smartphone. Developer Allen Hartle will be on site for a personal demonstration.

Omnia.11Then there's Omnia.11 for FM and dual-path FM/HD, with new features and software upgrades that make Omnia.11 more essential than ever for mission critical FM and FM/HD processing, where maximum firepower is required in an extremely competitive environment.

Omnia.9 And also. there's Omnia.9 for FM/HD and FM/3HD, with additional features this year courtesy of brand new software. Simultaneously process FM analog and HD-1, plus encode and process streaming audio. There's an optional HD-2 and HD-3 version, plus encode and process streams.

Omnia ONE And finally, you'll find Omnia ONE.SG, the hot new high-performance, stand alone stereo generator that converts pre-processed analog, AES/EBU or Livewire input to composite baseband MPX output. It has a built-in composite clipper to remove minor overshoot.  Standard features include Single Sideband capability, a technology which may potentially reduce multipath caused by terrain and urban structures. As with every Omnia ONE, the unit can be converted to FM, AM, Multicast, Studio Pro or Stereo Generator with a simple software download.

25-Seven Makes Its Telos Alliance Debut
It's about time (sorry, couldn't resist the pun)!

Be sure your time visiting us this year includes a stop by the newest member of our family. As in the past, 25-Seven will bring its entire development team for on-the-spot response to your questions and to learn from you how we can enhance our product range.

25-Seven PDM On display, of course, will be Program Delay Manager. Its recently patented PD-Alert™ feature makes certain you know exactly what happened whenever an operator uses PDM to prevent inappropriate material from airing. PD-Alert creates two time-stamped audio files - capturing what took place both on-air and off-air - which get internally archived and e-mailed to the PD (or GM, or CE, or the legal team) every time the "dump" button is pressed. We'll also be showing off some new features. A multi-view window allows you to control multiple PDMs from a single web page. Plus, newly enhanced data-follow-audio ensure your now-playing and other ancillary data remain sync'd to your delayed audio, even when manage your data through a combination of serial and Livewire AoIP ports.

Precision Delay You'll have the opportunity to listen to Precision Delay, winner of multiple best-of-show awards at NAB Show 2012. With up to four hours of sample-accurate stereo delay, it's the solution stations have been seeking to cure the headaches of drift between analog and HD Radio transmission signals; broadcast repeater synchronization; and delaying programs across time zones.

We'll also have our other program time management solutions for your perusal. The revolutionary Audio Time Manager is a real-time time-compressor and time-shifter that lets stations "pause" live radio, insert new material, then seamlessly return to the original program with no loss of content. Program Length Manager shrinks or stretches programs and program segments by several minutes an hour -without pitch change, artifacts or glitches. Find out more at 25-seven.com

Discrepancy Sheet
Carroll Shelby liked Las Vegas. A lot.
Shelby Cobra He liked it so much, in fact, that he built his headquarters there, not far from the Las Vegas Speedway, and only about 15 minutes from The Strip (make that <5 minutes if you're driving a GT500KR). Shelby, of course, was the Texan who thought it would be cool to stuff a Ford V-8 into a British 2-seat sports car, and see how much asphalt he could melt. (Turns out, it was quite a lot). And, along with the Shelby American corporate HQ, there's also the co-located Shelby Museum.

Tours of Shelby American's museum run every day but Sunday, and they're free (one of the few things in Sin City that are), no reservation required. You can take in some amazing cars, like the aforementioned 500KR, the Shelby Series I racing prototype, the GT-H and, of course, Cobras galore. They're located at 6755 Speedway Blvd; check out their website here for more details.
