"A marathoner is a marathoner regardless of time. Virtually everyone who tries the marathon has put in training over months, and it is that exercise and that commitment, physical and mental, that gives meaning to the medal, not just the day's effort, be it fast or slow.  It's all in conquering the challenge." -Mary R. Wittenberg, President, New York Road Runners Club

A NOTE FROM THE RACE COORDINATOR

Dear Runners,

It is hard to believe that the MCM will be here in less than 15 days!

This past weekend, many of you have completed your 18-20 mile run and are now tapering off.  Enjoy these next couple of weeks as you taper and let your body rest so you will be strong for marathon day.

Wear your team shirt with pride.  You are a part of the largest charity team in the MCM. Between our charity slots, already registered runners, and Team Semper Fi (our injured service members), we are over 1,000 runners strong!

Our fundraising efforts are well on the way, but we do still have a way to go to reach our goal of $775,000.  October 20th is the deadline for everyone to reach their fundraising commitment of $400, if you have not done so already.   Let's crush that $775,000!!

It has been my absolute pleasure getting to know everyone "virtually" over the past few months. I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible marathon weekend.  I will be at the Expo and the pasta dinner.  You are an extraordinary group of people and you should be extremely proud of your accomplishments.  Not only are you training for a marathon, which is a huge commitment in itself, but you are also fundraising for our wounded service members and are helping to ensure that they are never alone on their road to recovery.  Thank you so much for your hard work and dedication.

Please come by the Expo, pick up your goody bag, and say hello race weekend.

MCM AND THE GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN

For the most up to date information, check the MCM web site

"The MCM is busy planning the multitude of details necessary for successful execution of the event operations plan.  The organizers remain focused on firing the howitzer at 0755 on 27 October and launching 30,000 runners across the nation's capital and Arlington, VA.  The government shutdown, however, certainly adds a new element to what is already a hectic period in the planning cycle.  Since the shutdown occurred, the MCM staff has been in communication with those partners that are affected and is working to develop a comprehensive understanding of potential challenges to hosting the event.  For the participants, the shutdown may raise questions and doubts if months of training will still result in the receipt of a medal at the Marine Corps War Memorial.  Marines are known for being Semper Fidelis, always faithful.  In this spirit, the expectation is that runners will remain faithful to their training and the MCM will continue to plan diligently for an amazing MCM Weekend."
