Club Assembly Reports:
Treasurer - Past Pres. Albert Guida, Jr. is treasurer for both the Club and the Downtown Rotary Charitable Fund, two entirely independent entities. The Club's dues and cross-fines pay for day-to-day Club operations, RI and District dues, meeting meals and bookkeeper expenses. All fundraising dollars go into the DRCF and are used for youth activities, Polio Plus, Booker Elementary and ongoing requests for special projects.
Rotary International Foundation - Past Pres. Allen Puliz shared that the RI Foundation sits on about one billion dollars which funds international projects such as water, literacy, Polio, etc. Funds are also provided for matching grants for clubs and Districts. Interest earned on the dollars in the Foundation is divided up and sent to the Districts annually, where funds are split based upon each club's annual giving and then used through grant requests for club projects.
Membership -
Membership Chair & Past Pres. Lane Kay encouraged everyone to continue to build the club with like-minded members. Once a prospect has expressed an interest, the Membership Committee will meet with that person to discuss what is required to be a member. Once the application is completed, it will be presented to the Board for approval and then sent to the general membership. After induction, a red badge is presented until the new member has completed these items - attend board meetings, participate in committee/fundraising, serve on a committee, attend club events, volunteer for weekly meeting team and visit other Rotary clubs.
Administration -
Marilene Nevins is in charge of the Club calendar, coordinating lunch needs with Four Queens, as well as sending out birthday and anniversary cards.
Back to Booker -
AG/PP Linda passed out details on the Booker programs, including Booker Thanksgiving on Tuesday, November 18th, and the League of Extraordinary Booker Students program. Volunteers are needed for various classroom presentations throughout the year. We have been a part of Booker for over 25 years.
Public Relations -
AG/PP Linda announced we have a new
Facebook page - please be sure to "like" it and share it with your friends. Also, each member can post anything Rotary-related to the page. Always looking for folks to help with PR.
New Generations -
Carla Smith heads the youth services, including RYLA, TLC and other District youth competitions. She is in need of assistance to bring in qualified students for various competitions.
Fundraising -
Carla announced a yet to be determined fundraiser in September, in addition to our Big Game Board sales and the annual Block Party.
International -
Steve Reiter is the chair and in charge of coordinating the Super Build in October and May, as well as the Las Vegas Mayor's Cup.
Pres. Teresa is working with Steve to educate more clubs about the event, which will lead to more homes and sponsors for the international teams.
