Hello Stanley Families-
What an exciting end of year we are having here at Stanley! Last week I was able to attend a recognition event in San Francisco for Stanley's 2015 Gold Ribbon School Award. I am so proud of our staff, students, and Stanley community and was honored to represent Stanley at this inspiring event.
I was also excited to attend Stanley's Jazz Café with my family. This event has become legendary in Lafayette, as students from Stanley, Campolindo and Acalanes perform together with adult jazz musicians. Our kids are able to enjoy playing with and listening to some of the best local jazz artists - what a treat for our families and our entire community! Many thanks to Bob Athayde, Ginni Reynolds, Allison Shellen and the entire Generations in Jazz program for putting together such a wonderful evening!
And as if things could not get any more thrilling...
Earlier this year, Global Relief Outreach, our student-led club advised by teachers Jan Winter, Katie Pitts and Dianne Chandler, decided that they wanted to support the Peace Corps, more specifically the initiative called "Let Girls Learn," which promotes education for girls around the world, as one of the recipients of their fundraising efforts. GRO sold popsicles and other treats at lunch to raise the money. When GRO makes donations, the kids in the club write hand-written notes to the organizations, on Stanley letterhead, which accompany the checks. They explain who they are and what they do and tell the organizations that they're proud to be presenting them with support. All of the kids in the club sign the letters.
A few weeks ago, we were thrilled to find out that the students' GRO letter generated a lot of attention at the Peace Corps. On Friday, Stanley was lucky enough to welcome the director of the Peace Corps, Carrie Hessler-Radelet, who visited Stanley to thank the kids for their donation. As if that weren't a big enough deal, California Congressman Mark DeSaulnier also attended! The excitement only grew when a video from First Lady Michelle Obama was played and she personally thanked our kids for their work!! Please visit the Stanley website to see it for yourself. Thanks to our GRO students and our teachers for their work with the Peace Corps. We are proud to be able to empower students and teach them the importance of giving back to those in need. It is truly fulfilling to have students develop the habits to become life-long activists who work to better their communities and the world! GO G.R.O!!
Next week is a busy one - please take a minute to visit the Stanley website for information about end-of-the-year activities including class picnics, field trips and 8th grade promotion. Information is also posted on the School Loop calendar.
Thanks again for your support-

PTA Announcements and Events

I am so pleased to announce that Caren Kline has accepted her nomination as Stanley PTA Executive Vice President (EVP) for next school year! This was a remaining vacancy on next year's Executive Board, and it is such an important role because the EVP serves as PTA President the following school year. ( Kelly Mains will be PTA President for the 2015-16 school year.) Caren will be formally voted in to her position at the next PTA General Meeting in August. Caren has served in a variety of leadership capacities in our community, including President of Springhill Elementary Parents Club in years past. Being a certified teacher herself, she's naturally interested in our schools and in supporting quality education initiatives. She's also passionate about programs that promote healthy choices and wellness learning opportunities as part of every student's school experience. She'll be all Stanley, all the time next year with her two boys entering 6th and 8th grade. Thank you Caren for stepping in to this key role within our PTA! STANLEY ATHLETICS

Wildcats Sweep Track Championships
The 2015 Stanley track team won all three championship meets for the season. It was three-peats by the B Team and 6A Team, but it was the first win for the Stanley 7/8A Team since 1999! In all meets, nearly every athlete set personal bests in their events. This is a team that worked very hard all season and reaped the rewards at the end.
B CHAMPIONSHIP
Incredibly strong Stanley 7th grade boys and girls teams, and an equally talented 8th grade girls team, dominated the B Championships held on May 27th at Piedmont High School. Stanley earned nearly a quarter of all available points with those three squads and the efforts of five 6th grade boys. There were no 8th grade boys to represent our B Team this year.
6A CHAMPIONSHIP
The 6 grade A Team won their championship meet at Alhambra High School on May 28th. Besides a decisive team victory, the girls won the Top Girl Team trophy and the boys placed a very close 2nd for Top Boy Team. Three new school records were also set at the meet.
7/8A STANLEY INVITATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
An incredible team from Stanley competed in top form at the Stanley Invitational held at Acalanes on June 1st and 2nd . Competing with 13 middle schools, Stanley came out on top anchored by strong relay teams and many outstanding individual performances. It marks the first time Stanley has won the Invitational since 1999! Both 7th Grade teams, and the 8th Grade Girls, won their respective top team honors as well. We have a lot of trophies! Three new school records were also set.
Although the small group representing our 8th grade boys scored little in points, they all PR'd at the championship and their leadership and support was a major contribution to their teams' winning year.
NEW SCHOOL RECORDS
Eleven new school records were set this year! Most years there might be one or two, if any, so this is testimony to what a great 2015 Team Stanley is. Congratulations to all the Wildcats with your names newly planted on the Records Boards found in Stanley's main gym.

P.E. Jersey Pre-Orders
|
|
Beginning in the 2015-16 school year, Stanley will transition to a new P.E. jersey style.
To pre-order a P.E. jersey, please fill out the form here. The deadline to order is 9 AM Monday, June 8.
- The online form takes less than a minute to complete.
- No payment is due now; pay in August.
- New jerseys will cost $20
The new jersey style will be a reversible green/white crew neck made out of the lightweight, moisture-wicking performance fabric commonly used in today's athletic apparel.
Please note: Students of all grades may continue to wear current mesh-style jerseys in good condition for P.E. classes next school year if they wish. All students, however, are required to have a P.E. jersey--old style or new.
You are being asked to pre-order so that we can buy plenty of jerseys in the right sizes but not so many that we end up carrying a large inventory of unsold jerseys, tying up funds that could otherwise be put to work.
