Greetings!
Only a few more days to go until the Queen's Day & Enthronement celebration!
This promises to be an absolutely wonderful and super-fun event for people of all ages! We are expecting well over 200 guests this year! As we approach this major event, here is a quick update:
Date/Time/Place: Sunday April 28, 2013 from 1:00 - 6:00 PM at the private section of the Abraham Lincoln Park. Use parking and entrance on E. Poinciana Drive. See map and driving directions on the left.
Program
- 1:00 PM Reception at the Park (receive wrist band, food and gift tickets, drinks, appetizer). Try to be there no later than 1:15 PM!
- 1:30 PM Welcome by Arnold Adriaanse. Official Opening by LtCol Maurice Schonk and Honorary Consul Mr. Siebe van der Zee, followed by a toast to Her Majesty Queen Beatrix and His Royal Highness Prince Willem-Alexander of Oranje. The official opening will be concluded with the singing the American and Dutch anthems, performed by Ms. Colleen Zandbergen. We will also take a (very large!) group picture.
- 2:00 PM Start of 'Fun & Games' (typical traditional Dutch games) - great fun for anyone of every age group (participation obviously on a voluntary basis!)
- 2:00 PM Start of the "Vrijmarkt" (Flea market). Bring a blanket and start selling (small/fun) items to the crowd!
- 3:30 PM A Group Game (anyone can participate!)
- 4:00 PM Queen's Day 'Borrel' (Happy Hour): enjoy drinks, warm and cold snacks!
- 6:00 PM End of Festivities (Don't forget to pick up your commemorative gift!)
Note: Food and beverages are included in your ticket price and are available throughout the event. An ice-cream vendor will be at the park as well (for cash purchase).
Dress Code: Anything comfortable you like, but try to wear something with the color ORANGE (referring to the House of Orange-Nassau (in Dutch: Huis van Oranje-Nassau), the Dutch royal family).
Vrijmarkt/Flea Market. Those of you who want to sell small/fun items to the crowd after the official opening ceremony: bring a blanket (and a parasol - it will be hot in the sun!) and start selling your items. You can attach price tags to your article(s) if you like. The rest of us: if you plan on perhaps buying something: please bring (small) cash with you so it's easy to pay the sellers.
Seating: There is a limited number of folding chairs available. If you want to make sure you have a chair, please bring you own folding chair. Mark the chair with your name.
Weather/Shade/Sun Protection: the weather promises to be great, but it will be warm (around 93F/34C) and there is a limited number of shaded places in the park. If you want to bring your own parasol (or canopy) feel free to do so. Also protect yourself from the sun and heat by wearing appropriate clothing, a hat of some kind and apply sunscreen.
Looking forward to seeing you this Sunday!!
Warmest regards, Royal Netherlands Air Force F16 Detachment Tucson NLBorrels Tucson
