TRUTH & Rumors
|
Some Pakistanis are upset that their federation accepted a year long ban from the British Junior Open. They feel a whole nation is being punished for the sins of a few. - This week SquashMad and Daily Squash Report published an article (above) alleging that Americans sabotaged squash's Olympic effort years back.
- Squash Ezine had that story over a year ago (here). #Just Sayin
- New IOC President Thomas Bach said he was considering expelling India from the Olympic Games because of political corruption in the country's national governing body.
- Apropos of nothing, World Squash Federation President N Ramachandran is a powerful businessman who made his name running the largest cement business in southern India.
- Congratulations to Wesleyan University's men's squash team, who defeated Brown University last Saturday for the first time in 45 years.
- A day after being eliminated from the Hong Kong Open, PSA #1 Ramy Ashour wanted a few minutes of court time to test his injured leg. Local organizers said he could use the court if he paid $14 for an hour. He paid it.
- SquashMad.com reported here James Willstrop and Mohamed El Shorbagy both slammed the referees for a poor job of officiating their recent match in Hong Kong.
- Don't expect PSA to enforce any punishment for straying from its much reported gag order though. After all, it is Willstrop who is the current PSA President.
- Young bucks Kush Mahan and Craig Friedman are in the process of launching Mind Bright Foundation to service mental health needs in New York City. And they've assembled and impressive group for their Advisory Board and list of Expert Advisors who will start working with squash kids at StreetSquash.
- Last week, we highlighted a GQ article that was a little harsh on the young men and women at Brown University. Well, here's some good news for the kids in Providence. BusinessInsider.com ranked Brown students here as the "hottest" Ivy Leaguers. Sorry Columbia, you're evidently the least hot.
- Evan Dobelle, the former Trinity College President, who created their squash dynasty by adjusting the college's admission of squash players, was recently forced out as President of Westfield State University because of questionable financial practices.
- And his lawyers are now trying to bill Westfield for his nearly $100,000 legal bill spent while trying to keep his job.
- Interestingly enough, Trinity College is looking for a new Prez (here). Maybe, Dobelle can get his old job back.
