Committed to Being a Marianist
Lenten Greetings!

This past weekend I was blessed to participate in the Rite of Election, part of the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA). Feelings of pride and joy overwhelmed me as I witnessed the readiness and commitment by the Elect to state their desire to become Catholic. They were surrounded by catechists and sponsors, affirming their commitment. That commitment, largely personal, is very powerful in the context of being part of something larger, the body of Christ.

I received the sacraments as a child. As an adult I've questioned why I stay Catholic. This past weekend provided an opportunity for me to think about my own Marianist and Catholic commitment. Why did I join the Marianist family? Why do I stay? What is my level of commitment - to myself, to my community, to the Marianist Family, to the Church? Who stood by me and was integral to my formation? Who makes up my continued journey? Who do I stand by and affirm on their journey?

The Lenten practice of fasting reminds us of God's unending love, embodied in the sacrifice of Jesus' life for ours. Lent also is a time to be a better person. Being better for me means being more like Christ. How lucky are we as Marianists to have the System of Virtues as a spiritual practice!

These moments remind me that I'm part of something larger than myself, and the responsibility I have to sustain those things. In addition to fasting, prayer and almsgiving, I recommit to sharing my time, talent, and treasure with those things that bring me joy, particularly the Marianist Family.

May we all be committed to what it means to be Marianist and what it means to acknowledge, be grateful for, and spread the joy that gives us life.

May Lent provide us graced moments as we prepare ourselves to experience the paschal mystery and the joy of the risen Christ.

Peace and Blessings,
Matt Dunn

MLC-NA Annual Report
We will be sending out the MLC-NA Annual Report shortly as a separate e-mail.

Marianist Newsletters
Did you know that the Marianist Family sends out four different emails?  Each one is sent out once a month and provides information important to every Marianist.  Blessed Chaminade said that it is important to read the signs of the times and these newsletters are a great opportunity to learn and get involved in what's going on in the Marianist Movement.

Justice Jottings provides information about Social Justice issues being led by the Marianist Social Justice Collaborative.

Gifts and Tasks provides information about the International Organization and spotlights a region or country in every issue.

Family On Line is published by the Society of Mary and provides insightful stories about the activities and people in the SM, FMI, and Lay branches.

The Friday Magnificat is a special opportunity to join Marianists around the world in prayer by reciting the Mary's Magnificat.

We hope all Marianist will subscribe to these newsletters.  We respect your privacy and require that you opt-in to receive these newsletters.

You can subscribe to these newsletters by clicking on the links in the "Newsletter Box" above.

Social Media Intern Needed

The Social Media Intern will receive a stipend and free  registration to the Marianist Assembly this summer. If you are interested, send your resume or listing of your work experience to Jim Barrette at [email protected].

A Marianist Moment
"No doubt, faith must be animated by charity. Faith should not only be a light in the mind, but it should be in the heart as well. There must be in faith a disposition of the heart; love of truth. This is why you must savor what you believe.

Prayer Intentions

Let us pray...

For our Church and all peoples, that this Lenten season be a time of deep reflection and renewal of our faith in Jesus.

For the Assembly Team and the success of the 2017  MLC-NA Assembly.  May this be a fruitful time for the Marianist Movement.

For the Society of Mary and the Marianist Sisters during the bicentennial celebration.  May the joy of this celebration lead to an increase in Marianist Vocations.

For the homeless that they may find food, shelter, and support during the winter months.

For all women during Women's History Month, may we recognize their contributions to our Church, the world, and our personal lives and may they continued to be blessed with courage and perseverance.

For all those who are ill, especially those suffering from cancer, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, and other diseases. May they know the healing touch of our Lord.

For Gisele Wasno, mother of Mike Wasno, Chair of the Marianist Lay Community of North America, who died on March 2.

Your Annual Contribution Makes A Difference

We recently mailed our Annual Contribution Appeal via the postal service and email. If you did not receive a copy, you can find it here.

We receive contributions from all branches of the Marianist Family and people who are touched by the Marianist Charism. Our success depends on having the resources available to provide current and new programs that benefit our members.

We ask each Lay Marianist to contribute the equivalent of 2 hours wages.  (One for MLC-NA and one for the International Organization.)

If you'd like to make a one-time or recurring on-line contribution, click here. You may also send a check to the address below (in the footer).

Our annual report will be sent out in early February once we have closed our 2016 books.

If you can offer your time and talent to help, please click here.

Thank you for your generous support.  Together we will grow the Marianist Movement.
