The Easter Season - A Time to Fill Our Cups

"In the Jewish tradition there is service called the Havdalah service which is recited over a cup of wine that runs over into the saucer beneath. This cup symbolizes the intention to produce during the week ahead not only sufficient to fill one's own cup, but to have excess that will allow overflow for the benefit of others. I am obliged to first fill my cup and then continue pouring as it were so that I will have sufficient to give away to others." Rabbi Daniel Lapin
I don't know about you but lately I have feeling that my cup is pretty empty. I have been asking myself, how can I find balance in my life so that I can give from a place of abundance and not scarcity? You see I often thought I needed to give from a glass half full but what I discovered when I first read the above quote is that I needed more than a glass half full, I needed it to be overflowing so that it wouldn't run dry.
Jesus is a real model for this. He took time away to retreat, he enjoyed a good meal and it certainly wasn't work, work, work all the time. I am reminded that Jesus said, "I have come that they might have life, life in abundance" This abundant life is filled with relationship. Relationship is at the heart of the Marianist Charism and is balanced by five pillars: People of Community; Followers of Mary; People of Faith; People of Inclusivity; Leaders in Mission.
Which of the pillars are you strong in? Which ones help your cup to overflow? We love to hear from you!

MLNNA Update
The MLNNA Leadership Team will be meeting in Dayton, OH on May 6-8 for our annual retreat. Our primary focus this year is to continue working on the draft Lay Marianist Handbook. (Excerpts have been published in previous e-News editions.) We will also be catching up on other projects like the MLNNA organization and the upcoming elections.
You may have noticed this e-News came out on a different Friday. It wasn't an April Fool's joke. In order to focus on Earth-day, we switched weeks with the MSJC newsletter. We'll be back on schedule in May.
