The first and most important thing you can do is to plant some trees!
Fall is the perfect time of the year to do this. The sap is starting to go back down and they are preparing for their winter dormancy. And, the soil is still warm enough so they can still root themselves into their new location. Plus, keeping them watered throughout the heat of summer is no longer an issue.
So.....
in giving back to all our loyal customers....
From October 1st - October 12th
All 15 and 20 gallon trees together with all balled and burlap trees will be
30 % OFF
Now that's a HUGE savings!!!!
so, tell your friends, relatives and neighbors that if they have any ideas about planting some trees this is one great opportunity!
Still Wondering what else you can do???
If you click here you can go back and visit an archived Newsletter about what to do in October. Just click on the article "Stuff to Ponder".
and a P.S. here....Don't panic if the needles on your White Pine trees are starting to turn yellow. It's just what they do this time of year. It's called "shedding" and they will lose the old growth to make room for the new.
Question: What happened at Beaver Creek????
Answer: An UN-welcomed Change!
Since the tornado of 1999 and then Hurricane Ike in 2008 and a couple of major ice storms in between, we have been trying to nurse a couple of old trees but even we are not miracle workers I guess. So, the next time you come to the nursery you are likely to see some major deletions.
Remember the huge, old Niobe willow when you came in the driveway???
GONE!!!!!
and the 100 year old Maple that gave us privacy and shade for our home
it too is now
GONE!!!
nothing left of either other than a huge pile of sawdust and a bulging woodpile.
They say nothing lasts forever and that change is good but....I for one am pretty sad with each trek I make outside or each turn back into the driveway.
Guess we will need to find a landscaper now to try and revive the areas so they look a little better by next year.
Just for fun
and checking your Memory...
Since it is October....
Do You Know This Man??
Yep... Ol' Chrisy Columbus!
But,
Do you remember the names of his ships????
??????
Before and After
A recently purchased home where the probably once beautiful path and four square garden had been "let go" for whatever reason.
Before
Black-eyed Susan's have taken over (as they can easily do) the nice private path to the rear garden.
The existing sun dial looks lonely at the end of the path inside the garden (below).
After
The right side of the path has been cleared and a curved row of Green Gem Boxwoods together with 3 strategically located Double Red Knockout Roses now leads the viewer's eye to a center piece (replacing the sun dial) that can be seen from the very front. The Big Blue Liriope was divided from both sides and re-located in part to match the left side.
The new pedestal and bowl ( made by Stonecasters, formerly Henri Studio) now have become a focal point that can be seen from a distance. Seasonal plants can be arranged in the bowl to add color and eye appeal.
In case you couldn't remember the names of Colombus' 3 ships, they were the Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria.
Now
Sit Back....
and
take in some Autumn Beauty
and
above
all
else....
Remember that the
most important thing about
Fall
is
to
ENJOY!!!!!
A Closing Thought
Of all the seasons, Autumn offers the most to man and requires the least of him
