Cold Day Recess - A New Procedure

We're all hoping the coldest days are behind us!...but, just in case, we are implementing a new policy regarding recess and exceptionally cold weather.

Currently: We follow the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) guidelines for safe exposure to the cold based on temperature, windchill, and duration of exposure. Recess lasts 30 minutes; if NOAA says 35 min. of exposure is unsafe based on current conditions, we cancel recess (leaving us a 5-minute safety buffer).

In the future: We will follow the same NOAA recommendations, but based on 20 min. of exposure time (instead of 35). When a 20 min. exposure is considered safe, we will send students outside for a shortened, 15 min. recess.

In this way, we plan to keep our students safe and warm while providing them as many opportunities as possible to get fresh air and exercise.

History Day Volunteers Needed

Are you a history buff? Then we've got the opportunity for you! Frau Jacobs is looking for eight history day judges to help judge in this year's history day competition. The competition will take place on Thursday, February 18 from 9-3. It would be ideal if judges can judge the whole day, but volunteering in shifts is okay too. Please contact Catie Jacobs at [email protected] if you're interested! *No previous judging experience required!
Girl Scout Cookies Available Soon

TCGIS Girl Scouts are selling cookies! Look for times and dates when they will be in the atrium after school during the next few weeks.

Learn about traditional motifs, coloring, and patterns, used for centuries throughout Central and Eastern Europe. Participants will learn how to apply wax using traditional tools, to dye eggs in a succession of colors to create multi-colored eggs, and how to remove wax to reveal the final colors. While this craft may be more difficult for little Kinder, it's a great activity to bond with your artistic teen or with a group of friends. Register online at ww.gai-mn.org/pysanky.
