This time of year, I am always inspired to help those less fortunate.  In addition to all of the festive events throughout the city (with a list that keeps growing), this week I've focused on Giving Back...whether it's sending a gift to a child in need or volunteering to prepare food for the homeless, there are plenty of opportunities to make a difference highlighted in my Special Feature.

Balaboosta's chef has recently opened Combina, which translates to "combine" in Spanish and "creative reflections" in Hebrew.  The menu brings together bold flavors of both countries serving shareable small plates.  An extensive wine list and full bar are offered. The daily offerings are so unique that's it nearly impossible to highlight favorites. The Persimmon Carpaccio is a must.

When visitors ask me for one of my top choices for excellent food and people watching, I send them to Campagnola.   An old school spot with rustic furnishings, yet a hip environment. The dishes are hearty, so plan on sharing.  Spaghetti Bolognese is divine, as well as the Scampi and Bistecca Griglia.   It's all about Italian simplicity and the freshest of ingredients.  And did I mention the servers? They enjoy chatting and hearing favorable comments!

Be Santa Claus to a child in need. Through December 23rd, visit a participating post office to pick up a children's letter and make a child's holiday wishes come true.
