Whether you are celebrating the holiday or not, Easter Sunday is the ideal day to indulge in a decadent brunch, savor sweet treats or just enjoy a peaceful walk in the city.

The much-anticipated boardwalk and amusement park (over 40 rides) is now open for the summer at Coney Island!

April 19  NY Film and Entertainment Soccer Tournament (NY FEST)

Head to Pier 5 at Brooklyn Bridge Park to see dozens of organizations and hundreds of players from throughout the creative landscape square off on the pitch, across three divisions, in a full day of friendly yet competitive five-a-side match play. April 21  2014 Boston Marathon
One year has passed since the fatal bombing. This year, show your support for those that will take to the pavement to finish what they started, to raise funds for the families, or for other charities. Watch live online starting at 9am.

April 24 to 26  Design on a Dime

At the Metropolitan Pavilion (125 West 18th Street), I have always written about this annual event and I'm delighted that this year is Housing Works' 10th anniversary hosting the event.  More than 50 of the world's top interior designers create unforgettable room vignettes... which is then donated and sold for 50 to 70 percent off retail pricing!   

 

April 25 to 27  Antique Garden Furniture Fair
Fair returns to The New York Botanical Garden (Bronx, NY) with an expansive collection of ornament, decorative art, and furniture for the home and garden.
 
Through April 27  NY International Auto Show
Purchase your tickets for the annual show at the Jacob Javits Center (11th Avenue between 34th and 40th Streets). Feast your eyes on some of the hottest cars all under one roof... think James Bond meets Back to the Future!

Through April 19   Elegance in an Age of Crisis: Fashions of the 1930s

The Museum at FIT (7th Avenue at 27th Street) features an exquisite collection from the decade that emerged from the Jazz Age and ended with the onset of World War II... a period when modern clothing was introduced to the fashion world.  

Visit the Arcadia Contemporary Gallery in SoHo (51 Greene Street). Arcadia means 'a real or imaginary place offering peace and simplicity.' All of the works in this exhibit show real life with a twist that will make you think.  
  
April 24  Sam Wolfe Connelly
View paintings of the young talented artist as he makes his gallery debut at the Arcadia Gallery (51 Greene Street). Appreciate his concepts on creativity, illustration and life.

The Little Prince:  A New York Story 

At the Morgan Library & Museum (225 Madison Avenue); this is a story that I know is familiar to so many of us. Twenty-five manuscript pages on hand to view, along with personal letters and photographs from Saint-Exupéry's collection.

     

 

Pterosaurs:
Flight in the Age of Dinosaurs
Rare fossils, life-size models, and hands-on interactives bring these ancient animals to life at the American Museum of Natural History (Central Park West at 79th Street).
  

Zoe Leonard

As part of the 2014 Whitney Biennial at The Whitney Museum of American Art (945 Madison Avenue), Zoe Leonard has transformed a section of the Museum's fourth floor gallery, into an enormous camera obscura, a naturally occurring phenomenon in which a small hole in one side of a dark chamber projects an inverted image of the outside view onto the surfaces of the room. She places us directly inside the camera, a magical exhibit.  Through May 25th.

MUSIC & DANCE:   
 
Purchase tickets to a brunch concert every Saturday featuring music by these Beatles... they sound like them, look like them and act like them. You'll think you've been transported back to the 60s.

April 20  Arias & Ratzke

Starring NYC performer Joey Arias.  Expect the unexpected as both of these sultry vocalists engage and entertain you at the Public Theater (425 Lafayette Street). Also April 27th.  

  

April 22 to 24  Carla Bruni 
Carla Bruni, the former First Lady of France, actress and former model, is touring the USA to promote her latest album - Little French Songs. Buy tickets for this limited engagement at The Town Hall (123 West 43rd Street).

April 23  Emerson Quartet

I just purchased tickets to the opening night at Alice Tulley Hall (Lincoln Center). The incomparable, Grammy-winning quartet performs the final installment in its three-concert series.    

 


April 23 to 27 
Snow White
Featuring over the top costumes by Jean Paul Gaultier, the ballet at David H. Koch Theater (Lincoln Center) focuses on the tension between the wicked stepmother and Snow White.


April 24  Julio Iglesias Honoring Oscar de la Renta
Julio Iglesias returns to Carnegie Hall (881 7th Avenue) for the first time in 25 years for a one-night-only performance honoring legendary fashion icon and philanthropist Oscar de la Renta. Music meets fashion... right up my alley!

Through April 24  Arabella
At the Metropolitan Opera (Lincoln Center Plaza), Strauss' three act comedic opera, set in Vienna, portrays the age old tale of the conflict of marrying for love or money.

Tribeca Film Festival Storyscapes
Purchase tickets to the House of Imagination Exhibit Space to view five distinctive transmedia projects incorporating virtual reality, live performance, 3D graphics, music and gesture-based gaming to encourage the imagination to flourish.

 

Annapurna

Starring two performers you will recognize... Megan Mullally (Will and Grace) and her real life husband, Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation) star in a show about a couple separated and reunited - their reunion, charged by rage and compassion, brings back the worst and best of their former bond. At The Acorn Theatre (410 West 42nd Street) through June 1st.

  

Bullets Over Broadway  

Famed Woody Allen film hits Broadway at the St. James Theatre (246 West 44th Street) and stars Zach Braff.  Musical comedy is loaded with laughs and colorful characters. Through September 28th.  

 

Here Lies Love
This musical retraces the journey of Filipina First Lady Imelda Marcos from her rise to power to her descent into infamy. The show at The Public Theater (425 Lafayette Street) blends the passion of politics with heart-pounding dance beats. Through June 21st.
 

Of Mice and Men  

There is a limited engagement of the revived literary Steinbeck classic. Actors James Franco, Chris O'Dowd, and Leighton Meester make their Broadway debuts in this emotional American Depression-era tale. At the Longacre Theater (220 West 48th Street) through July 27th.

 

 

 

The Library 
Academy Award-winning director Steven Soderbergh (Traffic, Erin Brockovich, Ocean's Eleven) returns to the stage to direct The Library. A cold and chilling world premiere that asks us to examine our relationship to the truths and lies that profess to heal us. I've just purchased a block of tickets for this much anticipated play at The Public Theater (425 Lafayette). Through April 27th.

Donna Karan and celebrity chef David Burke have collaborated on a fabulous food and fashion event. Donna Karan's Madison Avenue (819 Madison Avenue) boutique will feature food from David Burke Townhouse's menu from 6 to 8pm. A portion of the sales will be donated to City Harvest.

Don't miss the 2014 Easter Parade and Bonnet Festival in NYC... see Easter bonnets to the extreme as "paraders" walk along Fifth Avenue from 49th to 57th Streets from 10am to 4pm. Although I won't be donning a bonnet I always enjoy strolling down Fifth Avenue on Easter, without any cars in sight!
