In the meantime, wellness is a year-long theme so I've decided to to complete the month with my top reference picks... books and guides to help you navigate your health in the New Year.

For the Foodie... The West Village
Each corner of the West Village sparks my interest and takes me somewhere I hadn't planned to go. These are my top new on the scene selections from a true foodie neighborhood...the West Village.
Carbone 181 Thompson Street (Bleecker & West 3rd Streets) Understated and welcoming, the atmosphere is reminiscent of a restaurant out of The Godfather! Italian-American cuisine at its finest, and another home run for Mario Carbone and Rich Torissi. Book ahead since it's one of the hottest tickets in town. Red sauce classics, Linguini Vongole and Chicken Scarpariello were favorites when I dined there recently. You'll be humming the background tunes of the 1960s as you marvel at the food! Pagani 189 Bleecker Street (at Barrow Street) Casual and affordable dining serving full Italian menus until 1am! Housed in the Pagani & Brothers music store of the early 20th century. Baked Veal Meatballs and the Seared Scallops with fennel are my picks... most entrees are less than $20. A large bar, warm wood accents, and vintage photographs add to the comfort of a great evening. Piora430 Hudson Street (Morton & Leroy Streets) French-Italian-Korean fusion. Cooking hints two of the cuisines since the chef is Italian and the owner is Korean. Try their market vegetables as your first course; the pastas are amazing. My friends and I enjoyed the Rigatoni and the Bucatini. Attentive service, delicious food and a chic ambiance. By the way, although the name sounds Italian, Piora means 'blossom' in Korean. FOODIE EVENTS February 1 & 2 Eataly Wine Tasting 3-5pm this Saturday & Sunday, head to the market mecca of Italian goods for special wine tastings. Taste your way through the regions of Italy, learning about the quality and value of each wine. Discover new wines and meet the people behind 70+ selected Italian producers who represent the Slow Wine values.
