General Events...
January 17 & 18 It's time to rewind and take a step back to the fashions of years past. Stop by the Manhattan Vintage Clothing Show at the Metropolitan Pavilion (125 West 18th Street). New York's greatest collection of vintage clothing and antique textiles from the 18th, 19th and 20th century. And speaking of clothing, starting in February, I will share with you each week my favorite clothing and specialty boutiques... both new and established shops that are located throughout our many 'hoods of the city.

Cultural Pursuits...
Through January 19 The Goldfinch
The Frick Museum's exhibit (1 East 70th Street) is getting a lot of attention, because it is a masterpiece, but also because of Donna Tartt's best-selling novel with the same name. Donna writes a novel every ten years and I've just heard it's Katie Couric's favorite new book!
January 24 The Little Prince: A New York Story
At the Morgan Library & Museum (225 Madison Avenue); this is a story that I know is familiar to so many of us. Twenty-five manuscript pages will be on hand to view, along with personal letters and photographs from Saint-Exupéry's collection. Through April.
January 24 through February 2 Winter Antiques Show
This 60th year celebration will showcase the most prestigious antiques in the country at the Park Avenue Armory (at 67th Street & Park Avenue). Truly the best of the best. January 24 Carrie Mae Weems: Three Decades of Photography and VideoAt the Guggenheim Museum (1071 Fifth Avenue), Carrie's work focuses on work, age, gender, and class.
Don't miss Zack Seckler's exhibit at the Robin Rice Gallery (325 West 11th Street). I attended the opening on the 15th. This is Zack Seckler's first photographic exhibition which captures the boundless raw beauty of Africa as seen from less than 500 feet above ground!
Through February 23 The Armory Show at 100: Modern Art and Revolution One of my favorite museums, the New-York Historical Society Museum & Library (170 Central Park West), is showcasing the Armory Show at 100, 100 masterworks from the 1913 Armory Show that powerfully impacted American audiences. Through April 6 Ink Art:
Past as Present in Contemporary China I just went to see this exhibit at the MET (1000 Fifth Avenue) and it was wonderful - 70 works by 35 artists from 1980 to present.

For the Foodie... Midtown West
Each week I'll share with you my top new picks for the hood that I'm highlighting. Kingside and Betony are perfect for dining after a performance at Carnegie Hall. And f rom time to time I'll also write up some of the notable dining spots in the city.
Betony
41 West 57th Street (5th & 6th St) Named after a mint herb, Betony's cuisine is American Nouveau. Their food is outstanding! We savored the roasted chicken breasts and actually saved room for dessert, sampling the chocolate cremeux! The two-story space is dramatic, featuring soaring photographs of our wonderful city. An expansive bar is perfect for the after work crowd.
Butter
70 West 45th Street (5th & 6th St)
I've often eaten at Butter on Lafayette Street and was pleased that they have opened in Midtown, a great addition to pre/post theater dining. American cuisine at its finest, all prepared by a Food Network star (Alexandra Guarnaschelli). Abundance of green market offerings, creating a varied seasonal menu. An inviting bar, a subterranean restaurant, and communal tables which are appealing to those who like to mingle. My recommendations are the "butter" poached lobster, kale salad and if you enjoy dessert - the s'more with peppercorns, cocoa, and graham crackers is a must!
Kingside
Viceroy Hotel - 124 West 57th Street (6th & 7th Ave)
Located in the hip new Viceroy hotel and steps away from Carnegie Hall. French-influenced cuisine with New American touches, all inspirited by chef Mark Murphy's childhood of French heritage and Italian roots. The menu features both large and small plates. I enjoyed their charcuterie and angel hair pasta dish. All my three picks for new dining spots in midtown have expansive bars. Cocktails at Kingside offer selections from the classics to those with modern twists.
