With some much-needed relief from the heat, I'm looking forward to spending time outdoors!

I've included events for the coming week, as well as this week's Special Feature... Outdoor Flicks, opportunities to enjoy the fresh air with friends while seeing some old and new favorites.  I've even included my picks for each summer series.

July 26  Sunset on the Hudson

Every Friday night at Pier 45 (at Christopher Street), this week's free performance will be the Chuck Braman Jazz Band.

Make sure you find time to listen to Kim Nalley sing Billie Holiday at Dizzy's Club Coca Cola.

   Hudson River Park Concert 
Outdoor concert series on Pier 26 (at North Moore St), this weekend see The Gaslight Anthem with The Hold Steady.

Through July 28   Lincoln Center Festival

Concurrent musical events at Lincoln Center. You can still get tickets for Sinéad O'Connor on the 26th or 27th.
 

Through July 28  Brasil Summerfest 

Second annual Brazilian music and arts festival. The festival showcases diverse styles. Traditional samba, forro, bossanova and contemporary tecnobrega, Brazilian hip hop, and indie.

 

Through July 28  New York Musical Theatre Festival

Shows and artists ranging from avant-garde to operettas.

Through August 24, an annual festival of concerts, opera performances, late-night recitals, and world premieres

As part of the Lincoln Center Out of Doors Festival through August 11th, this Grammy Winning band will knock your socks off with a mix of hip-hop, rock, funk, and salsa. Check out the website for the full schedule of free events.

July 28 Moondance 
Sundays at Pier 84 (at West 44th Street), you can learn to dance for free, care of Dance Manhattan! This weekend features Salsa with Nu D'lux, followed by live music, sponsored by City Winery.   

 

July 28  Harlem Week 
A schedule of performances, films, fashions and sports, celebrating Harlem's rich culture. But don't be deceived by the name... events and performances actually go on throughout August! 

July 30 & 31  Metropolitan Opera Summer Recital Series 
The series began on the 16th in Central Park and will end on the 31st with Queens. Just two more outdoor concerts left in the season.

Broadway in Bryant Park 

Every Thursday, visit the park for performances from Broadway's very best  shows... this Thursday will be from shows such as Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark and Tony Award Winner, Kinky Boots.
