ONE GRATITUDE STATEMENT FROM THE PAST

In issue 231 you were invited to write down one thing from your past that did give you joy or satisfaction. Today I introduce you to the "Perfect Game" as discussed in Matthew Ferry's book Creating Sales Velocity. This game will challenge you by looking at one of your past experiences that did not give you joy or satisfaction. In fact you may still consider that experience as awful, unfair, or overall very negative.

PURPOSE OF THE "PERFECT GAME"

The purpose of the game is to take an experience that you had labeled in a negative way and rewrite your script. The game assists you in finding a way of making up a story that can end up perfectly. Our stories create the perception of who we are.

THE STEPS OF THE PERFECT GAME

  1. Choose something in your past that you thought went wrong.
  2. Create or make up a story that sounds perfect. Many negative stories (or self-talk) can contribute to lower self-esteem, so why not make up a story that supports you and makes you happy? Write a story as to why this event was perfect for you and list the benefits you have received.

EXERCISE

As an exercise try out the two steps of the Perfect Game and see what positive story you can create.

Remember gratitude is something that can be learned. Be grateful you can create a new story for yourself each day.
