Dear ,

Welcome to Issue 219.  If you did not receive a previous issue, you may use the archive link below to view it now.  The mission of "Marvelous Mondays" is to offer an inspirational thought, a practical exercise, some humor, or a simple tip to jump-start your week and to enhance your life, business, outlook or relationships.

Please feel free to forward "Marvelous Mondays" to others who will enjoy it.

7, 8, & 9 HABITS OF HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL LISTENING

7.  Assume Value.  Assume that what the other person is saying is very important and that you will gain by listening.  Keep listening for the value.

8.  Look for the Main Ideas.  Avoid being distracted by details.  Focus on the key issues.  You may have to dig hard to find them.

9. Detach.  If we are too attached to our opinions, we can't listen to others.

EXERCISE

This week I invite you to do the following:

1.  Practice looking for the main ideas in a conversation.

2.  Practice looking for value in a conversation that may start off as uninteresting.

3.  Notice whether it's important for you to hold on to your own opinions?

"The greatest human need is to be listened to and that's why when the people whom we care for and who care for us don't listen, it becomes one of the greatest human pains."
