LIGHTS.. CAMERA.. ACTION!

Welcome, Big Bruno, aka Bruce, as our fabulous video producer and editor! You may run into Bruce at the Sanctuary as he films the pups and kitties to put together educational and motivational videos starring our residents and volunteers, and promotion videos of pups we are fostering for other rescues as part of Buster's Buddies.

Bruno has put together terrific videos for us in the past. Here is one featuring our pups and volunteers, present and past.

THANK YOU!
For voting for House with Heart in WTOP's Click-for-a-Cause campaign. We had an AMAZING virtual turn out and I couldn't be prouder to be part of the HWAH family. Although we did not win the top prize, we came in, by my last count, the Top Three.  The top prize in our category did go to a dog rescue -- congratulations to Lab Rescue of the LRCP, Inc. who work to save Labrador Retrievers in need.

You are all such amazing cheerleaders for the Sanctuary!

We are still seeking...

This month's Volunteer Spotlight is on.. Katrin Weixel!

Kat has a new addition to her family, Benjen, who came all the way from the country of Qatar to find his true love Momma.

Congrats Kat!

Here's Benjen and his soulful eyes...

Kat found HWAH through her work at the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. They did a supply drive for HWAH back in 2009, and Kat helped to drop off the supplies. I will let Kat tell us the rest of her story:

"When Sher invited us in for a little tour and a visit with the pups, I fell in love. We did a supply drive again the following year, and then I finally decided I had to sign up to volunteer at this magical place. I started as a volunteer in the summer of 2011.

"I've gone from being a guardian angel to a groomer, and now I do the medications on Wednesday nights. It's a great job for me because I know exactly what to do and I can see how much it helps. And while I sit and cut Freddie's millions of pills, I enjoy conversation with the Wednesday night crew and salivate until Michelle serves up her amazing popcorn!

"I've always loved animals and dogs, in particular. I never had a dog growing up because I had severe allergies. Luckily, I grew out of them and couldn't wait to adopt my first dog. We adopted our first greyhound back in 2000, and we haven't gone more than 3 months without a dog in our home since then. Right now, my husband and I share our house with Dexter, a Chihuahua mix, Shadow, a Cairn Terrier mix, and our newest pack member is Benjen, an Irish Wolfhound or Deerhound mix who came to the US all the way from Doha, Qatar!

I am so thrilled to be a HWAH volunteer. It truly is "my" sanctuary- I can go feeling stressed or tired and instantly feel calm and happy when I walk through the gate!  It's truly dog heaven on earth!"

House With A Heart

On NewsChannel 8

Did you catch us on NewsChannel 8's Pay it Forward segment? "Pay It Forward" is a NewsChannel 8 initiative to help recognize good people in the Washington, D.C. area who are doing good deeds.  F.H. Furr will donate $500 to the good cause featured.

The segments can be viewed at: http://www.wjla.com/news/payitforward/.  You can see our segment right now by clicking here.

As always, if you have any fundraising ideas, please do not hesitate to share them with Sher or Harriette. Thanks to you dedicated volunteers, we find out about opportunities like these and are able to raise much-needed funds for our pups.

Important Reminders:

The volunteer hours are between 11am-2pm. Please gather your belongings and prepare to be out the door by no later than 2pm. Thank you very much for your cooperation in adhering to this schedule.

Please continue to follow our guidelines upon entering the Sanctuary and remember to not give attention to barking or jumping dogs.

Keep up the good work!
