Bucks County Conservation District Asks Pet Owners to "Paws" and Think

Meghan Rogalus, BCCD Watershed Specialist and her dog Sadie visit the Quakertown SPCA. The sign was installed as part of this mini-grant project. Meghan is evaluating the site for plants to naturalize the basin and cut down on nonpoint source pollution from the dog walking loop on the property.
Mary Ellen Noonan, Bucks County Conservation District (BCCD) Environmental Educator, is on a mission to "doo" something about pet waste affecting water quality in her county. Through a PACD's Nonpoint Source Pollution Prevention Educational Mini-grant, she currently has a project underway to install signs at dog parks and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) as well as develop an educational brochure.
Financial and other support for the NPS Mini-grant Program is provided by the Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts, Inc. through a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection under Section 319 of the Clean Water Act, administered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

USDA - NRCS Upgrading to Windows7 and ArcGIS ver10.0

NRCS' computers on the USDA system, both for NRCS users as well as Conservation District partners on the USDA system, must meet the requirement to upgrade all computers to the Window7 operating system. Over the past year, Informational Technology Services staff has been working diligently to meet the requirement. Only Customer Service Toolkit users and engineers using their specific tools still remain to be upgraded. The first counties to transition to the new tools on February 7th.
Customer Service Toolkit serves as the primary means for developing and delivering technical assistance products such as maps and narrative and contract documents related to conservation planning and resource assessment. The integrated mapping software used in the Windows7-compatible Customer Service Toolkit is an upgrade to ESRI ArcGIS version 10.0. Users will experience little change is the Toolkit functions but will have to navigate the new buttons in both Windows7 and the new ArcGIS version. In Pennsylvania, there are about 330 computers designated to get the Toolkit upgrade and the deadline to accomplish the task for all Service Centers is July 1, 2013.
