When you think of a fast food place, good customer service is probably not the first thing that comes to mind. However, there is a chain in our area that stands out for that very reason. In fact, a portion of their mission statement reads
"You can count on us to be the difference and:
- Reach out
- Start a conversation
- Share a smile"
Isn't this refreshing? Simple, basic and direct. It adds nothing to their overall costs but the benefits may be tremendous.
This particular chain, Burgerville, is much more than a fast food burger joint. It features fresh, local and seasonal food, and the restaurant in my particular neighborhood (Salmon Creek, in Vancouver, WA) goes the extra mile when it comes to service. After you order and your food is brought to your table, you are asked, at least once, if you would care for anything else, and afterwards everything is cleared, recycled and disposed of for you.
On weekdays, Dorothy takes care of the dining room. She is fairly well known here in the area, and for good reason. When my friend and I stopped in for lunch last Friday, we were greeted by her big, friendly smile and "You go ahead and sit anywhere you like; I'll take care of you today." And take care of us she did. Additional napkins? A drink refill? Something else to eat? Nothing was a bother for her -- she wanted to make sure we enjoyed our experience.
It's not often you might think of a fast food restaurant as a place to enjoy a relaxing conversation and lunch, but when it comes to Burgerville you do, in large part because of their desire to be different.
"Reach out ... Start a conversation ... Share a smile" |
Remember...
As we move into the holiday season, I am thankful for many things I have in my life. Among them, I am thankful for people like Dorothy, who have a genuine warmth and interest in others, and show it every day through their friendly smile, words and actions. They truly make a difference in this world.
Happy Thanksgiving! |
