Then Samuel said, "Is the LORD as delighted with burnt offerings and sacrifices as he would be with your obedience? To follow instructions is better than to sacrifice. To obey is better than sacrificing the fat of rams.
1 Samuel 15:22 (God's Word Bible)
As we come into a new year, many look for the next pronouncement...the newest expression of God's intent...the latest cliché. Although this message is directed toward 2016, it articulates what we should already be doing and sets the tone for what is to come beyond this new year.
2016 shall be full of God's instruction, as though on steroids, coming with power and punch, precise and direct; along with His expectation of us to quickly obey. The time for dawdling and wishy-washy loyalty is ceased. The Lord has done enough to prove that He is God, He is faithful, He is I AM.
Abraham did not hesitate in getting up and out from among his people as the Lord directed, nor was he slow in holding to His promises to him. He rose early in the morning to execute the will of God...communing with Him all along the way.
Obedience is quick.
We are to quickly obey the voice of the Lord...even if the instruction is for an appointed time yet to come. There should always be an immediate "Yes Sir," followed by movement on what He said. In the case of the time yet to come, the immediate action is of preparation - seek God for direction, equipping, His course for any necessary training, and then follow through.
The prep may include a time of "be still," however, that still involves action - spending that time with God. This too is of equipping, for it is in this that He confirms, affirms, renews strength, builds up courage, fortifies resolve, and ignites (possibly re-ignites) passion.
Obedience is quick.
Embrace the instruction of the Lord - desire it, expect it, respect it, and quickly obey. There are promotion, advancement and fulfillment in being in His will. Do not be lax or squander any of the precious moments or encounters that God has set for you.
Let...cause your obedience to become quick.
Amen.
