Chris Padilla is the Vice President for Government and Regulatory Affairs at the IBM Corporation, and, as noted in a previous entry, he was one the panelists at GBD's spring conference on Pacific Arrangements.  As someone who had served in senior positions in the Administration of President George W. Bush, Mr. Padilla was asked a question about trade and the Republican party.  The part of his answer that particularly caught our attention was today's quote, which went beyond parties.  Here is more of what he said:

Candidly, we doubt that the decision America's voters make in this fall's presidential election will be either that clear or that definitive.  (If a week is a long time in politics, four months is an eternity.)   Put differently, whatever the electoral results, the policy battles will continue.  Mr. Padilla's special sauce formulation, however, is clear and valuable.  We would add freedom to his recipe, but more about that on Monday.
