Plein Air Art Adventure with Althea Goundrey 
 

July 20-23  Plein Air Art Adventure
Join fellow artists on a four day, three night art adventure at the limited-access Dartmouth Second College Grant in scenic northern New Hampshire. Tour the Grant and learn about the many options available to painters, photographers and sculptors. Go on daily outings of walking, hiking, boating and/or driving to discover the many locations suitable for creating art, and participate in evening group critiques. Call to Storytellers: The Mudroom at AVA      

The June 18th Mudroom Will Be on the Theme "All in the Family."

 

 

 

In the spirit of "This American Life," "The Moth", "Arctic Entries" and other storytelling events, The Mudroom brings Upper Valley residents to the stage to share their personal stories, be they adventurous, mysterious, funny, sad or sweet. At each performance, five selected speakers tell a seven-minute long story relating to the show's theme. Live music is featured before the storytelling, at the intermission, and at the conclusion of the event.

A Beautiful Studio Available at AVA  

 

A spacious, beautiful studio is available for rent in AVA Gallery and Art Center's 11 Bank Street building, beginning August 1, 2015.

 

Studio 207, located on the second floor, is 783 square feet, and rents for $739/month. It has wooden floors, and five large windows with blinds, 2 facing east, with a beautiful view of AVA's sculpture garden, and three facing south. Electricity and heat are included, and there is a sink in the studio. AVA's Carter-Kelsey building is ADA compliant, has ample, free parking, and tenants have access 24/7.

 

If you have ever wanted to have a studio at AVA, the opportunity to get involved is now available.

Artist of the Capitol: Constantino Brumidi  

Justin Morrill Homestead, Barrett Memorial Hall, South Strafford, VT  

June 7, 1:00-2:30pm -- Free!   

 

Dr. Barbara Wolanin, Curator of the Architect of the U.S. Capitol and author of Constantino Brumidi: Artist of the Capitol, presents a visual feast of images of the paintings by the artist deemed "America's Michelangelo" by Vermont Senator Justin Morrill.

 

Brumidi was a visionary artist inspired by the painters of the Italian Renaissance and the Baroque works from the early 19th century. His landmark works in the U.S. Capitol include the Frieze of American History, the Brumidi Corridors and the famous fresco "The Apotheosis of Washington," which adorns the arched ceiling of the dome of the US Capitol.  

 

This presentation, as well as the complementary exhibit "America's Michelangelo," (July 22-October 12) celebrate the restoration of the U.S. Capitol dome, to be completed in late 2015.
