Join the Houston Big Game Fishing Club
in Supporting the 11th Annual Port O'Connor TOY RUN!
The Toy Run is a truly special event that benefits the Adopt-An-Angel Program of Port O'Connor which provides toys to over 400 at-risk boys and girls ages 2-16 in eleven different counties along the Texas Coast. The Club is donating $1,000 to purchase toys for this year's Toy Run and thanks to our generous Club member's support, we have already received over $1,500 worth of toys to be donated to the Toy Run! $2,500 worth of toys is an incredible donation to the Port O'Connor Toy Run, but we want more!!! You still have time to donate new, unwrapped toys to the Toy Drive. The toys can be delivered to the Club office in Galveston as late as this Friday the 6th at 5:00pm. On December the 7th, all of the toys that have been collected will be transported to Freeport where they will be loaded onto Santa Jasen Gast's REHAB and taken to Port O'Connor. Valero Donates $5,000 to the Ronald McDonald House
Jerry Dobbs of Valero and Deano Merrigan, Club Director, presented RMH Executive Director Margie Chavarria with a $5,000 donation this week. Valero and its employees and their sponsors raise millions of dollars annually, which is donated to various local and nationwide causes with a particular interest in children's charities. Valero's donation was made on behalf of the Houston Big Game Fishing Club for our involvement with the Ronald McDonald House and our annual Fun Fishing Day.

Another huge success! Despite the rain, we had an incredible turnout at the annual Fall Mixer in November. As always, it was fun catching up with our Club Members and Corporate Sponsors. Thank you for continuing to support the Club!

News from The Billfish Foundation
The 2013 International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tuna (ICCAT) meetings concluded on November 25th in Cape Town, South Africa with several important recommendations adopted. Much of the emphasis was placed on bluefin tuna during the meeting, but resolutions for swordfish and sharks were also high priorities. The annual Total Allowable Catch (TAC) for bluefin tuna was extended unchanged for 2014 and existing swordfish quotas will remain the same for another three years, protecting the U.S. allocation of swordfish.
With large implications from the negotiations on U.S. bluefin tuna management, TBF reminds anglers, captains, and interested individuals comments are due on December 10th for Draft Amendment 7 for domestic bluefin tuna management. Within the draft rule, NMFS is exploring alternatives that will impact gulf anglers including potential seasonal longline closures. TBF is also very concerned with the potential opening of the DeSoto Canyons to conditional longline vessels in the Gulf of Mexico. This area was closed in 2000 to decrease mortality of juvenile swordfish and we would be taking a step backwards if longlines are allowed back in these areas. Captain's Corner
It looks like a great weekend. We have a couple of days, lets run out there. After loading the boat with all the goodies you climb up on the bridge, hit the button and click, no voltage. Have you checked the batteries lately? How old are they? Does the constavolt work?
Now you have spent half a day getting the boat running. Cold weather is hard on batteries, so check on them every so often and keep the block heaters on. Don't be the last boat out there.
