When asked, "What is anthroposophy?," Francis Edmunds replied, "The next person I meet."  This inspires me to think differently about communication.  How can I shift my efforts from explaining anthroposophy to discovering her anew in every human encounter?

With this in mind, I am planning to make some changes to the format of our monthly eNews.  Starting with the November issue, you will see some stories about members who are reaching out and participating in consciousness-raising activities.  I have already been collecting some stories from Vancouver Island,  and I welcome input from other areas for future issues.

I continue to welcome your comments and suggestions about ways to improve our eNews.  Social media can be overwhelming, and I want to do everything I can to improve the reader experience.

Most of you will not be able to participate in the members meeting in Ottawa on October 14, but I encourage you to read Dorothy's article below, and think about it for a few moments - perhaps while you are digesting the turkey...

Warm regards,

Mark

P.S.  If you still intend to make a financial contribution to the Society in 2013, I would appreciate it if you acted soon. Our credit union now accepts Interac email transfers, which may be more convenient for you than cheques.  Send the money to [email protected], and it will be deposited in the Society bank account. Meeting With Members In Ottawa -
October 14,  7 to 9 pm

- Dorothy LeBaron, for the Council
WordCloud
Word Cloud From AGM World Cafe

...We propose to engage in a guided conversation, in small groups, to see if changes need to be made to the statement of purpose, and what those might be, in order to better reflect the current goals and purpose of the Society in 2013. At the AGM in Montreal we experienced a lively "caf conversation" style of sharing our thoughts and would like to use the same process with members in Ottawa. The Council would like to warmly invite members to join us for an evening of conversation and working together, on Monday Oct. 14, from 7 to 9 pm at the Ottawa Waldorf School in Stittsville...
We would like to hear from you of anthroposophical initiatives in the Ottawa area, and briefly share with you some aspects of the council's work. Then we would like to engage with you in a process to work with the purpose or goal of the Society, as outlined in the newsletter following on the AGM (See links below.)...

We look forward to meeting you on the evening of October 14th.

September Update
Rencontre des membres avec le Conseil Ottawa -
14 octobre 2013, 19 h - 21 h

- Dorothy LeBaron

Learning to Work with the Public
Germany:
Professional Communication Conference in Bochum-Langendreer

Anthroposophical media people from the German-speaking world have met regularly since 1996. This (now two-day) meeting has given rise to a continuing education conference for communications workers who lack professional training. On November 1-2, the "Working with the Public" conference will be held (for the second time).

Medicine, education, agriculture, and other professional fields are served by Sections at the Goetheanum and can refer to Rudolf Steiner's indications, but media work has scarcely been addressed, although it is a profession for an increasing number of people. There is no course by Rudolf Steiner for "Journalism and Work with the Public" apart from a few brief mentions and general observations applicable to the world of media...
