This program will explore what is new in the design industry with regards to sustainable products and what companies are doing to implement long-term environmental practices and encourage the use of environmentally sound and eco-friendly products and materials. Four panelists will represent four different materials: wood furniture and systems, broadloom carpeting and carpet tiles, surface materials and paint and wall coverings.

Climate Action Plan released by President Obama
|
President Obama announced the creation of a new Climate Action Plan last week, which includes a focus on reducing energy waste. According to the plan, "energy efficiency is one of the clearest and most cost-effective opportunities to save families money, make our businesses more competitive, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions"

Passing the Green Associate exam will allow you to market your knowledge of the preeminent standards in the green building industry, and it is the first step in becoming a LEED Professional
USGBC-Missouri Gateway's two full-day (16 hours total) LEED Green Associate Exam Prep course is designed to prepare participants for the LEED Green Associate exam. Skilled instructors will provide an introduction to LEED, discuss methods of sustainable project delivery and green building principals, and offer test taking tips.

The U.S. Green Building Council - Missouri Gateway Chapter, in partnership with St. Louis Earth Day and St. Louis Green, is now accepting creative proposals for our September 10, 2013 program.
We are seeking presenters and topic ideas surrounding the theme of 'DIY' (Do It Yourself) Sustainability. Presentations will be made using the Pecha Kucha format which draws its name from the Japanese term for the sound of "chit chat" and allows presenters to showcase 20 slides that are set on a timer for 20 seconds per slide.
Preference will be given to topics relevant to the built environment, but all ideas are welcome and encouraged! Last year's program featured an exciting range of topics including: Electric Vehicle Conversion by presenter Hector Caiazza, Aquaponics, by head of Green Finned Hippy, Josh Davis, Furniture Upcycling by director of the nonprofit group, Perennial, Jenny Murphy, and DIY Green Roofs, presented by Hunter Beckham

This course will discuss a triple bottom line approach to greening health care supply chains, waste streams, and cafeterias. It will explore the opportunities and challenges facing a variety of unique healthcare environments - from administrative offices to sterile medical spaces. How-to critical thinking exercises will help prepare attendees to bring sustainability into their line of work.

USGBC Seeking Additional LEED v4 Beta Projects
|
According to a recent USGBC press release, nearly 100 building projects across the world are using LEED v4, the next version of the LEED green building program
, by participating in the LEED v4 beta. The beta project teams are helping USGBC validate and improve LEED v4 implementation and testing support resources such as reference guide content and LEED Online forms. Based on suggestions and input from the beta project teams, USGBC plans to fine-tune the LEED user experience during this beta period, before LEED v4 launches this fall.
The LEED v4 beta currently is open, and USGBC is encouraging additional projects to sign up to test the new version of the LEED green building program.

The Forest Stewardship Council US invites all commercial and residential building projects to submit applications for the 9th Annual Design & Build with FSC Awards. |

The awards honor designers and builders who are committed to using FSC-certified wood and creating a marketplace that promotes environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically prosperous management of the world's forests.
Eligible projects:
- Commercial, institutional, mixed-use, or residential
- At least 50% of new wood used (by cost) is FSC certified
- Must be located in the United States or Canada
- Must have been completed during or after 2012
