Don't Miss Carnival! It's A Roarin' Good Time
Friday, September 25, 2015 noon - 3:00 p.m.,
On the Quad

Mark your calendars for this year's Carnival and get ready for a fun-filled afternoon for the entire CSS community. Kick off the fun by running in the Fun Run at 12:10 p.m. Next head on over to the quad to play games, win prizes, sing a little karaoke, feast on delicious food, purchase homemade baked goods and so much more!

Come to Carnival hungry! You can enjoy a fresh grilled burger with chips and a drink for $7 and concessions are $1 each for a snow cone, cotton candy or popcorn. Cash only please. Made by your 8th grade students and parents as a fundraiser for Walkabout.

All funds raised from games and booths go directly to CSS classrooms, grade-level activities, clubs, and organizations.

Each year, Carnival is produced entirely by the Parents Association. If you're a parent, that's you! Come help transform the quad into a carnival midway and meet new friends. Volunteer opportunities include working at a grade-level or club booth, providing home baked goods for the Bake Sale, helping with set up and tear down, and counting and selling game tokens.

Setup: Thursday, September 24 from 2:00 - 5:30 p.m.
Setup: Friday, September 25 from 8:00 a.m. - noon

Calling All Bakers for Carnival
Friday, September 25, 2015

The CSS Carnival needs baked goods for the annual Bake Sale on Friday, September 25.

Please send in any homemade goodies... cakes, pies, cookies, cupcakes, brownies, breads, treats and more. Variety is wonderful!

Both individual portions (example: baggies of several cookies) & whole items (cakes, pies, loaves of bread, etc.) are appreciated.

Drop off items at the Trianon on the morning of Carnival (starting at 7:30 a.m.). We will price all the baked goods, and it is very helpful if you can label them with info about flavor, nuts, gluten-free, etc.  Thanks so much!

If you have any questions or would like to volunteer at the Bake Sale Booth, contact Linda Jackson at (719) 510-2676  or Patty Burke at (719) 339-8037. Thank you!
Donate Prizes to Carnival Prize Booth

Attention Kodiak Parents! This year we are looking to broaden the types of prizes students choose from in the Carnival prize booth.  We are looking to augment what we already have with donations of any new and lightly used (unwanted) birthday or holiday gifts suitable for children at CSS.  Examples include toys, stuffed animals, electronics (headphones, remote control items, popular accessories, etc.), board games, puzzles, craft kits, and anything else children would find fun to purchase with tickets.  Please don't buy anything for this effort; consider only items already lying around your house.  If you have any items you think might be fun for students to win, then please bring any donations to the box in front of Ms. Mayberry's office by the entrance of the Children's School.

If you have questions, please contact Prize Coordinator, Julie Noel (Parent to Ellie 8th grade and Ellis 5th grade) at (719) 685-1860.

Annual Fund: "Say Yes to Students"

Last month, Mr. Aaron Schubach, Head of School, shared his head's letter and blog: State of the School and Member-Supported Annual Fund Launch with $10,000 Claremont Challenge.

Please check out his shared State of the School vodcast, the Fundraising Overview and Annual Fund FAQs as forge ahead with a strong Annual Fund

We are happy to report we have already received 15 Claremont level gifts of $1500 or more toward our challenge of securing 40 Claremont gifts. Let's meet the challenge by October 5, 2015.

Can't give at the Claremont level, we invite you to make a participation gift at the level right for you and your family. It is important as a school that we strive for 100% parent giving.

Friendships Extended With Fall Harvest Feast

Center for Talented Youth
Ninth grader, Gab G. was recognized with an Award of High Honors by The Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth. Based on above-grade-level testing, Gabe qualified to register for the talent search program's intensive studies and online courses. In addition, his test results qualified him to attend an award ceremony during spring 2016, an honor achieved by fewer than 30% of program applicants.

Young Champion Ambassador
Senior, Jack M., is among five high school finalists competing to represent the city as the Young Champion Ambassador (YCA) in the Olympic torch lighting ceremony in Ancient Olympia, Greece, on April 21, 2016.

As a finalist he has been challenged to:
1) create a piece of art representing the Olympic Movement, in their own interpretation;
2) create a portfolio about their experience with YCA (details to come...), and;
3) present (2-3 mins) themselves and their work of art to our board of city leaders (and media) on Thursday, Nov 12th (show-time is tentatively 10:30, with presentations beginning at 11:00
...location TBD)

This presentation will be open to the public, and family/friends/school admin/teachers/sponsors are all encouraged to attend! We look forward to "cheering" Jack on during this final competition.
Submit Achievements and Photos
Parents and teachers are encouraged to submit nominations and digital photos of student achievements to Jessica James, Director of Communications, at jjames@css.org. These extracurricular achievements make us a well-rounded school and highlight the many unique talents and passions of our student body.  Each week, a diverse selection of achievements is highlighted in ROAR.
