2015 Honorees
Susan Barker Day '70
CSS will posthumously award the Founders' Day Hall of Fame honor for Susan Day who passed in 2014. Susan had a dedicated nursing career, was active with the Episcopal church and the Colorado Springs Conservatory. Susan had a deep love for music, art, and nature. In Susan's passing she left the school an estate gift of $380,000 for scholarships so that many years of future students may benefit from the experiential and educational wonders of our school. Susan's father, Jim was a Founding Trustee of the school.

Powys Gadd '75
As a scholarship student at CSS, Powys embraced every opportunity to enhance her education and pursue her childhood dream to become an archaeologist. She not only became an archaeologist, but has made significant contributions through archaeological excavations, surveys, restoration and preservation projects, repatriation of human remains to American Indian tribes, and has hosted numerous public archaeology projects. Powys has contributed to pre-Incan excavations in Peru, as well as Native American sites in Arizona, New Mexico, and Washington. She has had a 28-year career with the Forest Service, presently in North-Central Washington State. She is also active with the Nature Conservancy and local land trust.

Lynn and Andy Handford
Lynn and Andy Handford were dedicated to the CSS community from 1980-1997. Andy was hired as the Head of Outdoor Education & as a Math Teacher during the era of the Unit-Session Plan. He headed the Experience Centered Seminar program, co-founded Mountain Caravan, was a dorm parent, led ski trips, was the recipient of the school's prestigious E.E. Ford Award for Excellence in Teaching and served as faculty representative to the Board. During Andy's career at CSS, he approached his work as a team with his lovely wife Lynn. She was a dedicated faculty spouse serving in a variety of important roles from dorm parent, to emergency on-call night contact, ECS chaperone, and ropes course volunteer at Mountain Caravan in addition to her own career as a physical therapist and mother to their son, Duncan.
