Greetings from the field! Work continues to heat up this summer with significant activity planned in the coming weeks, especially on the east end of the project, between Interstate 15 and Maple Street. Crews are focusing on paving new lanes, completing on-ramps and off-ramps, and building the direct tolled connector, which will extend from northbound 15 to westbound 91 and from eastbound 91 to southbound 15.  As you drive through the area, you will see tremendous progress on these structures.

With more than 80 percent of the project complete, we are heading to the finish line, but a great deal of work remains. Through the end of 2016, please expect ongoing nighttime closures on eastbound 91 and on southbound I-15, as well as periodic nighttime closures of ramps in this area. Conditions will be changing frequently, so please watch for new roadway and ramp alignments. At times, it may be necessary to close consecutive ramps; we appreciate your patience with these closures.

As always, stay connected by checking our weekly Construction Alerts and visiting IE511.org before you start your commute. Updates are posted to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Remember to allow extra travel time, respect other motorists and let us know if you have suggestions for improvements by emailing us at [email protected]. Also, if possible, carpool or consider using Metrolink. We understand the challenges that construction activities place on the community and truly appreciate your support.

Be sure to be on the lookout for the following upcoming activity:

1. The Main Street undercrossing is scheduled to close for approximately two months, starting in late August.  To prepare for this closure of Main Street between the on-ramps and off-ramps, the "Main Push" is under way to remind motorists that there will be heavy construction activity near the undercrossing the weekend of August 26-29. Activities will include closures of the eastbound Lincoln Avenue on-ramp and off-ramp, a full closure of the Maple Street bridge, a 14-hour closure of westbound 91 at Maple Street for demolition of the old Maple bridge, and full closures of westbound 91 on Saturday night/Sunday morning and eastbound 91 on Sunday night/Monday morning to push lanes toward the outer shoulders and restripe the roadway in this area. Watch for changing conditions, expect delays and allow extra travel time, avoid unnecessary travel through the area, follow detours, and please patronize our local businesses. Our "Shop 91. Shop Local" webpage includes discount coupons for businesses in the area, such as Baker's Dozen Donuts, The Kabob Hutt, Super Taco, Hunny's Restaurant, Carl's Jr. and more.

2. Full nighttime closures of eastbound 91 near Interstate 15 will be continuing through the fall, Monday through Saturday nights. As a detour, motorists can use southbound 15, exit Magnolia, and then use northbound 15 to reenter eastbound 91. Please follow our Construction Alerts for more details by registering at sr91project.info/contact-us or emailing [email protected].

3. Closures of southbound Interstate 15 at the 91 will be under way this week to at least mid-September. Please use eastbound 91, exit at McKinley Street, and enter westbound 91 at McKinley to reconnect with southbound 15.

4. The westbound Serfas Club Drive off-ramp closure has been extended to October. Crews have encountered geotechnical challenges in the area, requiring the two-month closure to be extended about another month. As a detour, motorists can take the westbound 91 Maple Street off-ramp, travel north on Maple to Pomona Road, and then head west on Pomona Road to access Auto Center Drive/Serfas Club Drive.

5. The Orange County Transportation Authority is planning weekend full closures of the existing 91 Express Lanes in Orange County and periodic closures of the #1 lane in adjacent work areas, starting September 9. Five weekends of eastbound closures and five weekends of westbound closures are expected for this "91 Weekend Shift" work effort. Please click here for dates and details.
