HEAL Mentor Program begins.
Over 50 students met with seven health profession mentors for the first time on September 14 at Colton High School. After mentors were cleared through the CJUSD volunteer requirements, the HEAL students were matched with their mentors by their classroom teachers. The mentors will meet with the students at least once a month and will also have email and text contact in order to encourage the students in their studies. Based on the first session, this is going to be a great pilot project!

Teachers & Health Professionals
Health pathway academy workshops. Educators and teachers may be interested in the following seminars and developing a successful CTE program and A-G courses.
Be a medical healthcare interpreter. CRY-ROP in partnership with InterpreterEd.com is offfering a 40-hour medical healthcare interpreter course. The course is open to individuals 18 and older. See flyer for details.

Teacher externships applications close September 30. If you are a health pathway teacher wanting a chance to experience the "real world" of health professions outside the classroom, apply to participate in a 20-hour teacher externship. You will receive a $500 stipend upon completion. Some of the site available include:
  • Kids Come first Clinic, County of San Bernardino
  • Department of Public Health, Division of Environmental Health
  • County of San Bernardino Behavioral Health
  • Chino Valley Medical Center
  • Riverside County Department of Mental Health
You must complete the attached application, attend an orientation on September 30, from 4:00 -6:00 PM and complete required paperwork. The location of the orientation is still to be determined.

Students & Parents
Students can explore the latest careers in health on this great website.

Youth technology summit kicks off at Harvey Mudd College.  If you have a passion for technology and want to know how you can be a part of it, you don't want to miss this fun and interactive summit on Saturday, October 24. You may apply for a scholarship to cover the cost of registration. See the attached flyer for more information.

Career exploration videos for students. ConnectEd on YouTube offers students glimpses into a host of health careers as seen through the eyes of those who work in those careers. Get first-hand knowledge as well as information on academic classes and technical skills required.

YAHA Advocates! Looking for a great community event where you can share health access information? Every week we post community events from all over the Inland Empire in our weekly update (that thing you are reading right now)! Hey high-schoolers! There are plenty of volunteer opportunities in your community to help you complete your volunteer hours. See the attached list provided by the American Heart Association.
